Position Summary:

The OBGYN Physician Practitioner is a skilled member of the health team who provides medical and educational services according to protocol, and within the scope of the professional license in the State of Indiana.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • The diagnosis and treatment of various medical conditions that impact women's health.
  • Diagnosing and monitoring illnesses and disease by providing medical support to pregnant women and performing routine check-ups on female patients.
  • Working with expectant mothers to explain the childbirth process.
  • Provide childbirth and postpartum care for new mothers.
  • Must possess the ability to react quickly and logically to emergency situations in case an unexpected medical issue arises during the performance of medical procedures.
  • Must possess impressive stamina, dexterity and hand-eye coordination; sometimes for long hours of the day; and often for late at night or early morning hours.
  • Interview patients to understand their complaints and symptoms.
  • Study patients' medical histories and consut with other doctors.
  • Deliver babies by employing the necessary methods to protect the health of the mother and child.
  • Perform examinations to diagnose diseases and disorders.
  • Treat diseases in organs and other parts of the body.
  • When surgery is warranted, advise the patient of the procedure's benefits and risks.
  • Evaluate patients by ordering and reviewing GYN ultrasounds and microscopic exams of bacterial and fungal smears to determine diagnoses.
  • Perform a wide range of tests and exams, including pap smears, pelvic and breast exams.
  • Conduct operations to treat illness or remove cancerous tissues.
  • Prescribe medication and therapy, and make referrals to other medical professionals.
  • Coordinate nurses, assistants, anesthesiologists, and specialists required for surgical procedures.
  • Will participate in an on-call schedule rotation with OBGYN department at hospital.
  • Responsible for providing consultations requested by primary care providers.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Perform physical assessment of patients using observation, inspection, auscultation, palpation, and percussion.
  • Treat patients following standardized protocols and clinical guidelines.
  • Obtain and evaluate complete medical histories of patients and provide counseling and education to families on acute, chronic, and preventative conditions.
  • Plan, promote, demonstrate, recommend, and coordinate high standards of medical practice.
  • Educates patients and/or families about preventative care, medical issues, and use of prescribed medical treatments and/or medications.
  • Involves the patient, family, and community in setting realistic goals to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Interact respectfully and collaboratively with patients and their families, striving to develop favorable relationships with families.
  • Ensure that patients receive basic education/instruction on all continued care prescribed.
  • Collaborate with all members of the care team in providing patient-centered care.
  • Maintains legible, accurate, and confidential medical records.
  • Documents all medical evaluations, diagnoses, procedures, treatments, outcomes, education, referrals, and consultations consistent with NCQA (National Committee for Quality Assurance), TJC (The Joint Commission), and state regulatory standards.
  • Meet quality improvement standards for clinical record-keeping.
  • Maintains safe and infection free environment.
  • Ensures all personal professional licenses and certifications are kept current.
  • Prescribe medications as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Certification/License:

  • Current, unrestricted OBGYN licensure with the state of Indiana required

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of a M.D. or D.O. from an accredited educational institution.
  • Board Eligible or Board Certified.
  • 1-2 years' experience as an OBGYN Physician preferred.
  • Experience or training through an Accredited OBGYN residency training program is required.
