Granite Polisher Basic

JOB SUMMARY: Incumbent works as a Granite Polisher in the Countertop Department with responsibility in performing repetitive polishing with an air driven grinder to detail and apply a high gloss finish to granite countertops. The granite polisher will also:

• Operate an edge-polishing machine for polishing back splashes.
• Transfers from one task to another where demand requires worker to work without close supervision.
• Must use safety techniques when lifting granite tops of 50 lbs or more or 100-lbs as a two-person team.
• Performs other duties assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED OF THE POSITION:

• Knowledge of air-driven tools.
• Ability to work in safe manner.
• Ability to plan, organize work and meet deadlines.
• Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:

The supervisor/lead defines the objectives and priorities, informs the incumbent of special priorities. The incumbent independently carries out regular and recurring assignments without assistance. However, the supervisor/lead is available for advice on any deviations, problems, or unusual instructions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed inside and is exposed to all types of weather conditions. Areas may be damp, noisy, dirty, dusty, hot, cold, or drafty. The work site is well lighted, well ventilated, and easily accessible.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Required standing on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, to bend, stoop, and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. Lifts and carries items that weigh up to 50 lbs. and or moves, maneuvers, push, or slide items for proper position. Items weighing 100 lbs will be moved, lifted as a two-person team.

SAFETY AND HEALTH REQUIREMENTS:

Employee is required to wear safety glasses, ear plugs, safety shoes and equipment appropriate for the job and work area assigned, as directed by the Supervisor/lead. Incumbent is required to wear safety glasses and/or a face shield, rubberized rain gear including rubber boots.
