Job Description:
The Principal Engineer, EH&S will provide process safety technical expertise to Edwards global sites with the primary goal of driving results in compliance and high hazard identification and risk mitigation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Initiate and lead process hazard analyses (PHA), hazard and operability studies (HAZOPs), and Layers of Protection Analyses (LOPA) in order to identify, evaluate and control potential hazards within manufacturing processes.
  • Develop and deploy Edwards Global EHS Standards as they relate to process safety management and workplace safety systems, including safety instrumentation and alarm management. Author and update EHS Standards and establish standardized templates and tools to facilitate successful implementation of elements within the EHS Standards.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise to global sites and project teams as needed to support the safe design of new processes and facilities.
  • Develop and deliver training on hazard identification, risk assessments, root cause and corrective action analysis, and risk mitigation planning.
  • Support development of operating and emergency response procedures.
  • Partner with Plant Operations Engineering and Facilities teams to ensure that process safety-related documentation for all identified hazards are developed and maintained. This includes reviewing and organizing P&IDs and PFDs as necessary.
  • Monitor US site compliance against regulatory obligations, such as the EPA Risk Management Plan (RMP) rule and OSHA’s Process Safety Management (PSM) rule.
  • Facilitate sharing of best or proven safety practices across global sites
  • Other Incidental Duties
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Scientific field and 6 years of related experience OR
  • Master's Degree in Engineering or Scientific field and 5 years of related experience OR
  • Ph.D. or equivalent in Engineering or Scientific field and 2 years of experience
  • Experience in EHS Programs implementation
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience in basic process engineering, PHA, HAZOP, LOPA, and risk assessments
  • Knowledge of the operation and unexpected hazards related to various process and utility equipment including compressors, chillers, steam systems, pressurized vessels and lines, etc.
  • Knowledge of safety instrumentation and sensors, alarms, interlocks, and system logic
  • Ability to read and understand P&IDs and process data sheets (aka mechanical or design data sheets)
  • Advanced understanding and knowledge of US EPA and OSHA regulations as they relate to process safety
  • Proven expertise in usage of MS Office Suite
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills and interpersonal relationship skills including negotiating and relationship management skills
  • Ability to translate complex and technical information to all levels of the organizations
  • Ability to speak Spanish (or applicable language)
  • Recognized as an expert in own area within the organization while applying broad-based technical expertise and has full knowledge of other related disciplines
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, and concepts relevant to EHS Engineering
  • Advanced problem-solving, organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Advanced understanding of processes and equipment used in assigned work
  • Maintain current knowledge of global health and safety regulatory requirements and standards to facilitate sharing of best/proven safety practices across sites
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to influence change
  • Knowledge of and adherence to Edwards Environmental Health and Safety and Quality guidelines as they relate to department clean room medical device manufacturing
  • Strict attention to detail
  • Ability to interact professionally with all organizational levels
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast paced environment
  • Adhere to all company rules and requirements (e.g., pandemic protocols, Environmental Health & Safety rules) and take adequate control measures in preventing injuries to themselves and others as well as to the protection of environment and prevention of pollution under their span of influence/control
