Principal Engineer Field

Job Description:

Conducts technical analysis of product implementations, modifications, and enhancements to product in accordance with specific customer specifications and implementations. Troubleshoots technical problems and issues, determines technical solution in accordance with product and customer specifications, and recommends actions to company or customer representatives for coordinative product solution. Assesses product needs in accordance with customer specifications. Conducts technical training and product briefing with customers, vendors, and company representatives. Acts as local on-site representative to customers organization.

Discretion/Latitude Works under only general direction. Independently determines and develops approach to solutions. Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives. Impact Contributes to the completion of specific programs and projects. Failure to obtain results or erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in serious program delays and considerable expenditure of resources. Liaison Frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts. Represents the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.

Basic Qualifications Principal Field Engineer:

  • High school diploma and 9 years of applicable experience. 5 years relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer networking (Experience with switches, routers, media converters.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of handheld diagnostic tools. (DMM, Clamp Amp Meter, Fiber Optic Power Meter, Cable Verifier)

  • Demonstrated knowledge of mobile power generation (Single, Split, and 3-Phase AC drops)

  • Familiarization with Fiber Optical Cable (Single Mode / Multi Mode)

  • Experience with loading Crypto (Type 1 COMSEC) into network subcomponents.

  • US Citizenship Required

  • Must have / maintain current Secret Clearance

  • Ability to conduct 2 man-lift by DoD Standards

  • Required to obtain / maintain a Commercial Driver’s License (Class-A) within 6 months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • HVAC Certification

  • Fiber Optical Cable Spicing / Termination Certification

  • Generator Technician

  • Knowledge of military operations, procedures, and training activities

  • Knowledge of Army ADA systems and operations

  • Military veteran with service as an Air Defense Artillery (ADA) Non-Commissioned, Warrant or Commissioned Officer



Salary Range: $74,600 USD - $111,800 USD


Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
