Functioning within the Health System’s mission, vision, values, policies and procedures, the Registered Nurse assumes responsibility and accountability for the care of assigned patients on his/her shift. RN responsibilities include assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care using age specific criteria. Judgments are made based upon scientific knowledge and clinical skills. The RN also assists in planning, directing and teaching non-RN staff such as LPN and PCT/ Unit Secretaries. Must demonstrate flexibility with work schedule changes. The HVU registered nurse possesses advanced critical assessment skills, knowledge and competency in cardiovascular surgical and interventional procedures. The HVU registered nurse provides patient focused care across the continuum from pre- and immediate post-op/procedural recovery periods up to discharge for cardiac, vascular, surgical, and interventional patients. The HVU registered nurse is an intensive care nurse trained and skilled in cardiovascular medicine, vascular hemostasis, pre- and post-op cardiac surgery, vascular surgery, cardiac and vascular interventional care. On-call response time within forty-five (45) minutes required.

Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Licensure/Certification: Must have a valid unrestricted RN license for the State of Ohio. Current BLS required. Must also have ACLS or complete within orientation period. NIHSS required or within next offering.

Experience: Critical care experience required unless posted as Open Heart/Critical Care Residency position .

Skills: Must have excellent “customer service” skills, including the ability to exhibit patience and tact with all constituents including physicians, patients and associates. Be cooperative and collaborative, and have the ability to work efficiently while in stressful situations. Must have basic computer skills and EMR (electronic medical records) experience. Must be enthusiastic for learning critical care.
