The Process Engineer w/ PU Background will be responsible for improving manufacturing processes and methods for safety, quality and cost improvement.
Responsibilities
- Utilize experience with the manufacturing, formulating, processing and testing of Polyurethane polymers and systems
- Strong knowledge of Polyol and Isocyanate manufacturing processes, both flexible and semi-Rigid applications
- Assess processing issues, root cause analysis and implementing countermeasures to reduce scrap and repair rates on production lines
- Monitor foam processing equipment condition and maintenance and recommend equipment improvements/upgrades
- Apply existing knowledge and best practices of foam technology to current and future products
- Support both launch and production in addressing quality and processing issues promptly
- Develop & maintain a foam processing documentation system
- Strong Knowledge of Raw materials and supply base
- Improves manufacturing processes and methods for safety, quality and cost improvement.
- Increases efficiency by analyzing processes to identify and reduce variation.
- Tests proposed manufacturing methods and processes; confers with material vendors; solicits observations from operators; trains employees in proper methods.
- Assures product and process quality by testing finished product and process capabilities; establishes standards; confirms manufacturing processes.
- Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.
- Optimizes processes by statistically analyzing inputs and outputs; follows material vendor's instructions and established procedures; requests special services as needed.
- Coordinates the launch of new/revised products including establishing goals, training team members and evaluating results.
- Prepares and maintains process documentation.
- Project manages engineering projects to ensure commitments and deadlines are exceeded.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Requirements
- Technical Bachelor’s Degree such as Plastics, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
- 5+ years minimum experience in foam engineering & processing in automotive interior applications
- Statistical analysis abilities
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt preferred
- Experience in Semi rigid / slab foaming applications
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Strong mechanical aptitude
