Wasilla Area Seniors, Inc. seeks a Program Assistant to provide daily support services to participants at our Mid Valley location in Houston/Big Lake area. This position is Monday through Friday, 8am to 4pm. Applicants must be able to pass a Federal Background Check and a pre-employment drug test to include cannabis.

Summary of Position: The Program Assistant position serves the participants in activities of daily living while being sensitive to individual choices and needs.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Adhere to and clearly articulates the mission and core values of WASI
  • Assist with Toileting
  • Range of motion (ROM) and muscle strengthening exercises to maintain an optimal level of functioning
  • Transfers and ambulation
  • Redirection, monitoring and observation
  • Redirection and intervention for behavior, including observation and monitoring
  • Able to and provide covered services according to the client’s care plan, respond appropriately to client’s needs and reports changes in the client’s condition to the Program Manager
  • Maintain positive working relationships with clients, client families, WASI staff, community providers and referral sources.
  • Maintain a professional appearance at all times.
  • Excellent customer service and listening skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; able to effectively communicate with the clients
  • Ability to compute basic mathematics.
  • Demonstrate the ability to make appropriate professional judgments.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.

Qualifications

Skills and Abilities Required:

  • United States Citizenship or evidence of a valid Alien Work Permit
  • Eighteen (18) years of age
  • Clean state and federal background check.
  • Able to read, write and speak fluent English
  • Able to provide services according to the person’s Care Plan
  • Able to do and complete medium to complex tasks and combinations of task under direct supervision
  • Regular attendance.
  • Valid Alaska driver’s license and good driving record

Skills and Abilities Preferred:

First Aid/CPR

Food Handlers Permit

1. Physical Demands: While performing the responsibilities of the Program Assistant, the employee is required to occasional use of hands, wrists and fingers and lifting or moving up to 75 lbs. may be required. Movements such as stooping, crouching, bending, kneeling, climbing and reaching are occasionally required. This position requires spending a majority of the workday standing and walking, with occasional sitting. Noise and/or level of distractions in the work environment is moderate. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Continually work indoors. Occasionally work in areas that may contain dust, odor, mist, gases. Occasionally work with infectious agents and chemicals. Occasionally work with special equipment. Required to wear scrub or medical uniforms as appropriate.
