Refugees International (RI), a humanitarian organization which advocates for lifesaving assistance and protection for over 100 million refugees and other displaced people worldwide, seeks a Program Manager for Refugee Leadership. The person in this position will manage and coordinate a new initiative at Refugees International designed to engage refugee leaders and local civil society groups led by displaced people in advocacy and the policy process. Two major components of the initiative are to establish a Fellowship Program for refugee leaders, and to create opportunities for these leaders to influence major international and multilateral policy moments of significant consequence for forcibly displaced people, including at the United Nations and the World Bank. The incumbent will report to the Vice President for Programs and Policy and will coordinate closely with the Vice President for Strategic Outreach and members of the strategic outreach and program teams.

Ideal candidates have had experience leading programs or initiatives related to refugees and/or humanitarian crises, and they communicate effectively with individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds. In addition, they have an entrepreneurial spirit conducive to developing and managing multiple new projects and working well with others in small groups. Finally, ideal candidates are excited to contribute to a culture of good cheer, collaboration, and collegiality.

Responsibilities

Fellowship Program

  • Coordinate the stand-up and the rollout of a new Refugees International initiative on refugee leadership, engagement, and participation in advocacy;

  • Manage the implementation of this initiative in collaboration with other program staff;

  • Manage the recruitment and onboarding of a small cohort of global refugee fellows;

  • Serve as the main point of contact between Refugees International and the refugee fellows during their fellowships;

  • Foster and help facilitate close working relationships and project management among fellows and relevant staff;

  • Coordinate, plan, and execute trainings and other forms of capacity building, public events, media engagement, and advocacy opportunities for the refugee fellows.

Outreach

  • Lead and coordinate outreach with refugee-led and other organizations working on refugee participation.

  • Provide thought leadership and prepare briefs on policy issues related to refugee participation and engagement, particularly as they relate to UNHCR and the Global Refugee Forum.

  • Coordinate closely with and support Refugees International’s labor market access team on refugee engagement and participation with the World Bank.

  • Lead efforts to facilitate engagement with UNHCR on refugee participation in the Global Refugee Forum.

Experience and Education

  • At least five years of professional experience preferred, including programs or initiatives related to refugees and/or humanitarian crises;

  • An advanced academic degree in international affairs or other relevant discipline;

  • Knowledge of relevant international policy, institutions, and frameworks including UNHCR and the Global Refugee Forum;

  • Proven track record of project management, preferably in the refugee or humanitarian space.

  • Experience with refugees and forced displacement, including lived experience, preferred but not required.

Salary Ranges

Depending on background and experience $60,000 – $80,000 per year based on experience.
