The Role


Mission/Purpose of the Job
:


The role is based in Michigan City, Indiana. The Indiana Product Company serves the Industrial Vacuum Division of the Vacuum Technique Business Area of the Atlas Copco Group.

The role is to ensure profitable and timely execution of complex systems projects from customer contact to completion and introduction of new product introduction projects for manufacture at Indiana Product Company.

This will involve:

  • Adding technical & applications expertise to the sales process.
  • Assisting in making accurate customer proposals with clarifications of scope from Sales and customers.
  • Establishing overall engineering, design, procurement, assembly, testing and shipment plan including critical milestones and customer deliverables.
  • Leading a project team to deliver all project commitments in a timely fashion and under budget by coordinating and driving all required activities within all disciplines of the organization.
  • Engaging with all external stakeholders such as customers and suppliers as required.
  • Developing and implementing recovery plans as required in case of project delays or negative budget variances.
  • The management of complete medium to high complex vacuum system projects from proposal phase through to final acceptance and payment, to ensure project delivery to agreed timescales, budgets and quality requirements.
  • Manage project for introduction and transfer of engineering and manufacturing new products to the Product Company.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to ensure successful project delivery, including design reviews, prototyping, testing, and production ramp-up
  • Proactive engagement at all levels of the organization including Sales, Operations, Procurement, Finance, Quality, Operations and Engineering to drive contract delivery requirements for equipment, drawings and all supporting technical and commercial documentation.
  • Ensuring there are no obstacles to customers making timely payments in accordance with contractual obligations.
  • Active and expert technical engagement with customers and lead proposals to increase conversion rate and orders received.
  • The specification and auditing of bids against contractual requirements to ensure they are cost effectively executed in the Product Company.
  • Identification of technical and commercial risks, and their mitigation plans.
  • Provision of regular project reporting to management and customer reviews. Creation and maintenance of project plans from customer contract requirements.
  • Understands basic revenue, contribution, and gross margin models, meets financial objectives by forecasting and scheduling expenditures to manage cash flow and improve the gross margin of the Project.
  • Rigorous control (& communication) of costs and resources to deliver orders to budget or increased UGP. Tight management of scope with customer, enabling UGP increase through variation orders
  • Continuous improvement of process and solutions to increase orders received and profitability and ensure high-quality products are delivered to customers.
  • The Project Manager will provide regular and agreed reports to management and the customer on status and will pro-actively put in place risk mitigation plans. He/she will also convene post-contract reviews to create “Lessons Learned” recommendations to identify successful and unsuccessful elements in order to develop best practice and improve customer satisfaction.

What we expect of you?


  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science discipline.
  • 5 to 10 years experience of project management methodology, preferably gained in an electro-mechanical assembly environment.
  • Experience in managing cross-functional teams and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated the ability to manage projects and resources successfully; including full planning, budgetary controls skills, risk management, and issue resolution
  • PMP Certification preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of vacuum technology and working with engineering contractors.
  • Knowledge of high vacuum technologies and university / R&D applications a plus.
  • Ability to delegate responsibility appropriately and successfully to a multi-disciplinary team in accordance with project requirements.
  • Ability to travel to manufacturing sites and customer locations as needed (~ 30% of time)
