Provide psychological health case management services in support of the Alaska Army National Guard (AKARNG) Medical Activity’s mission of achieving maximum Individual Medical Readiness (IMR). The Psychological Health Coordinator requires the expertise as dictated by his/her respective discipline – the systematic application of substantial specialized knowledge and skills derived from the biological, physical, and behavioral sciences, to the care, treatment, counsel, and health teaching of individuals who are experiencing changes in normal health processes or who require assistance in the maintenance of health and the prevention or management of illness, injury, or disability.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Accountable for tracking behavioral health readiness and profile status of ALL AKARNG Soldiers.
- Accountable for behavioral health case management charting ALL AKARNG Soldier encounters in eCase (MEDCHART).
- Coordinate profiles, evaluations, and encounters at Periodic Health Assessment exam centers, during Soldier Readiness Processing (SRP), M-Days (Drill) and during the performance of duties during standard and special hours as outlined herein.
- Develop and share treatment plans as required by programmatic regulation through DoD approved communication channels on a regular basis (no less than weekly) with appropriate medical facilities (e.g. local, state, federal health care agencies), administrative and clinical personnel organic to, and outside of, the AKARNG State Surgeon’s Office and authorized members of individual Units.
- Log all referrals in MEDCHART (eCase).
- Submit behavioral health case management, medical documentation, and profile concerns to the full-time AKARNG Provider, the Director of Psychological Health, Health Systems Specialists, MEB staff, and authorized individual Unit personnel (e.g. Unit Medical Readiness Personnel, S-1, Unit Commander or designee) as relevant and appropriate.
- Participate in Periodic Health Assessment (PHA) events as determined by the needs of the state, individual Units, and by the mission of AKARNG medical authority.
- Ensure Soldiers referred by military and civilian providers are followed in accordance with established case management methods and those outlined herein.
- Case manage AKARNG Soldier care from the identification of psychological health illness or condition to when the Soldier is either:
- Follow the regulations and policies applicable to Individual Medical Readiness (IMR) and deployment, to include AR 40-502 and other applicable guidance including current and newly implemented Federal and State level policies.
- Secure all medical documentation received from Soldiers and/or their medical teams and ensure they are placed in or transferred to appropriate electronic health record systems as well as the Soldier’s hard copy record via the records custodian or PAD NCO/Officer.
- Maintain Soldier medical records in accordance with Army Regulation (AR) 40-66.
- Provide Records Custodians, Providers, Health Systems Specialists, or delegate(s) with all relevant health care documentation.
- Obtain releases of information (DD Form 2870) from every Soldier with whom health records are exchanged.
- Provide AKARNG Soldiers psychological health education and approved resources available to improve individual, Unit, and force readiness.
- Maintain strict adherence to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) standards and guidelines to include annual training requirements.
- Review and track AKARNG Soldiers’ Periodic Health Assessment/Soldier Readiness Processing (PHA/SRP) behavioral health encounter results.
- Contact service members consistent with treatment plans to educate on healthy lifestyle modifications (e.g. behavior modification, tobacco cessation, personal hygiene, etc.) to enhance individual and force readiness.
Qualification Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work OR Master's degree in Counseling, Art Therapy, Music Therapy or other applicable field
- Unrestricted license in counseling or social work
- Must be licensed to practice independently in the State of Alaska within his /her respective discipline or transfer/obtain State of Alaska professional license within 45 days of hire.
- Current Driver License
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of military culture and issues (e.g., combat-related stress, family separation, reunion, and reintegration) and experience intervening with military personnel.
- Knowledge and experience with Alaska Native cultures.
