Job Summary

AFC Urgent Care is looking for an experienced X-ray Tech who can perform radiographic and other diagnostic imaging and assists providers in the examination and treatment of patients while following established standards and practices. Cross-train and assist in other areas of the clinic as operational needs require. Works under the supervision of a physician and performs patient intake, standing orders or protocols, venipuncture, laboratory testing, and patient follow up. This position documents as appropriate in the medical record and supports optimal patient flow.

  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Setting x-ray equipment at the correct angle and height.
  • Setting controls on the x-ray machine to produce x-rays or radiographs of the appropriate density, detail, and contrast
  • Placing the x-ray film under the part of the patient's body to be examined and make the exposure removing the film and developing it.
  • Obtain patient history; assess/triage patients, measure vital signs, and record information on the chart.
  • Explain treatment procedures and prepare patient and exam room for examination.
  • Position instruments and equipment and hand to the physician as directed. Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment after use. Obtaining quality x-rays using correct position and radiation exposure;
  • Implementing safety procedures for patients, self, and staff to avoid unnecessary exposure to radiation;
  • Creating and documenting x-ray CD copies correctly according to the guidelines. Labeling images and sleeves correctly when making these copies;
  • Understanding the x-ray and processing equipment so that it will be used correctly;
  • Perform diagnostic tests including eye exams, electrocardiographs, defibrillators, cardiac monitors, oxygen equipment, pulse ox, peak flow, and inhalation treatment equipment.
  • Perform CLIA-waived lab tests, draw blood, and collect labels, and process specimens for send-out.
  • Perform both DOT and Non-DOT urine drug screens, using proper chain of custody; ensure preparation for pick-up and shipment to appropriate laboratory.
  • The complete medical chart to include medical services rendered, test results and supplies used.
  • Perform patient callbacks, arrange referrals and testing, and schedule follow-up appointments.
  • Monitor disposable inventory and place orders for medical supplies and pharmaceuticals.
  • Perform quality checks on medical equipment.
  • Assist registration staff and perform additional clerical duties as necessary.
  • Explaining the procedure to the patient
  • Positioning radiation protection devices such as lead shields
  • Following the physician's orders precisely.
  • Keeping patient records and adjust/maintain equipment.
  • Preparing work schedules and evaluating purchases of equipment.

Key Requirements:

  • High school diploma.
  • Ability to accurately read and write medical terminology.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts and weekend hours as needed.
  • Ability to escort or transport patients by wheelchair or stretcher when appropriate.
  • Basic computer skills including familiarity with electronic medical records.
