Job Title: Recovery Specialist I

General Description:

This position is located within the Chickasaw Nation Department of Family Services Residential Services Division. This position may also involve some cross-training with other Residential Services Division teams. The purpose of this position is to serve in a supportive trauma-informed capacity and provide guidance and services to residents within the Residential Services Division facilities during assigned hours. Must be able to identify and work with the American Indian community at large and relate to their needs under program activities. Responsible to assist in maintaining the safety and security of the facility and the residents during assigned hours. Individual shifts vary in all facilities and operate on a 24/7 basis with coverage to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Participates in processes that involve a wide range of daily living activities for residents including food service, hygiene, recreation, education and related community living chores. Recovery Specialist I may be responsible to accurately document all proceedings through appropriate recordkeeping in the electronic health record (EHR) system.

Supervision Received: This position is under the direct supervision of the Recovery Specialist Manager.

Supervision Exercised: None.

Supervision Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible for key elements of facility and resident security and safety during assigned shifts. This includes keeping all program keys in your possession at all times, periodic checks throughout the premises, and keeping all rooms not being used locked.
  • Must learn and fully utilize EHR applications as assigned.
  • Supervise scheduled meetings and group activities during assigned shift.
  • Provide transportation for residents to and from the hospital as well as meetings and activities as assigned, including transporting meals and supplies as needed.
  • Monitor and maintain proper documentation of medications being taken by the consumers/residents.
  • Supervise any work activities of the consumers.
  • Provide written reports as required by the program and or supervisor upon request.
  • Complete Recovery Specialist I progress notes as required.
  • Report any maintenance problems to the supervisor immediately.
  • Attend staff meetings, conferences and workshops as required, including mandatory monthly meetings.
  • Answer program phone during assigned shift, maintaining the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Greet all visitors to the program and obtain signatures on needed documents for confidentiality purposes i.e. “Agreement Regarding Confidential Information” sheets.
  • Provide crisis intervention and referral information for incoming phone calls.
  • Provide information or list of janitorial supplies as required.
  • Quality customer service is required, including, but not limited to: Treating all patients/consumers/visitors with respect and dignity; maintaining a cooperative attitude with other providers to facilitate quality patient care; must maintain an effective and cooperative working relationship with employees and supervisory staff of the facility, with tribal officials and other visitors to the facility.
  • Perform all other responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Required - Must be self-motivated and willing to participate in ongoing adult learning opportunities for purposes of skill building and professional development. Required - Interacts with co-workers and customers in a trauma-informed manner. Required - Must be able to work a rotating shift schedule. Required - Must be able to work with confidential material and exhibit the ability to practice appropriate boundaries including no social media contacts with present or former clients/consumers. Required - Must have an empathetic understanding of common social problems (i.e., addictions, mental health problems, domestic violence, sexual assault, etc.) Required - Must be sensitive to the Native American culture. Required - Must have a helping attitude and understanding of problems within a family-oriented framework. Required - Must be able to communicate well verbally and in writing. Required - Must be able to work effectively in a confidential manner. Required - Knowledge of The Privacy Act, Freedom of Information Act, and HIPPA law.

Education:

Bachelors Preferred - Be within 60 hours of graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in helping profession field preferred. Bachelors Required - General knowledge of the impact of the identified common social problems such as addictions, mental health, domestic violence, sexual assault, etc.

Training And Experience:

Preferred Experience (6 months - 3 years) - Related Experience. Required Training (0 - 6 months) - Meets all expectations of job description. Required Experience (0 - 6 months) - Experience to be consistent with Recovery Specialist I requirements.

Licenses, Certifications, Other:

Required - Must be at least 21 years of age. Required - Must be able to pass a thorough background check. Required - Valid Oklahoma driver’s license and good driving record. Required - If applicable, must have had one year of sobriety and no charges or arrests related to substance abuse within two years.

Physical Requirements:

Required - He/she must possess the ability to cope with constant changes in a stressful environment. Required - Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds, walk, stand, bend, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and engage in housekeeping activities as assigned.

Work Environment:
The work may include a certain amount of exposure to unmanaged emotions from consumers, family members, and visitors.
