The Children's Home of Poughkeepsie has been caring for children throughout the Hudson Valley for over 175 years! We strive to empower children and families to achieve optimal health and well being.
Family Opportunity Center (FOC) programs will offer a wide range of prevention services, that will include formal and informal parenting education, building social connections, meeting families’ concrete needs, and overcoming barriers to assessing mental health and/or substance use disorder services, if needed.
At the FOC, families will come together and participate in sensory activities, arts and crafts, cooking activities, literacy enrichment, gardening, making social connections, and receiving homework support. The FOC will be open after school and on Saturdays.
We are currently seeking a Part -Time Recreation Worker to work in our Family Opportunity Center, located in Dover Plains, NY. The schedule for this position is as follows: Saturday 10am-7pm, Sunday-Monday OFF, Tuesday-Wednesday 3pm-7pm, Thursday OFF, Friday 4pm-8pm-20 hours per week.
Position Summary:
The Recreation Worker will organize and attend activities for both the parent/primary caregiver and the youth while using the opportunity center. They will create the curriculum for activities that will support the social and emotional development of the children. The Recreation Worker will be responsible for making sure all activities run smoothly and families have what they need while using the FOC.
Some responsibilities include:
- Lead, create, organize, and provide recreational activities that match the youths developmental stage and continue to maintain the participants health and safety.
- Create a welcoming space where parents can connect, access resources and participate in adult education classes.
- Meet and greet families, and answer any questions they may have about the FOC (family opportunity center) programs.
- Monitor and assess the condition of the facilities equipment being used in terms of suitability, physical condition and safety.
- Cross train to support the Family Center Opportunity office support in their absence.
- Assist/Maintain family registration and activity records.
- Performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM Qualifications:
- Must be 21 years of age or older due to insurance regulations.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- At least 1 year of experience working with children and families
- Valid NYS Driver License in good condition as determined by the Agency
- Must complete and pass a pre-employment physical, PPD and drug screen and an annual physical and PPD.

- Appropriate certifications/licensure
