Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Staff Nurse in the Nursing Department at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School/ Eric B. Chandler Health Center.

The primary purpose of the Staff Nurse position is to administer nursing care based on the individual needs of patients and their families, in accordance with professional nursing standards. Assists Nurse Manager and Assistant Nurse Managers in administering patient care as instructed or assigned.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Assists with day-to-day supervision and management of nursing personnel in assigned unit.
  • Monitors supplies and stocking of exam rooms.
  • Oversees the ordering of supplies.
  • Orders medications on an as needed basis.
  • Supervises staff assigned to unit.
  • Provides feedback for performance evaluations.
  • Ensures that patients are prepped (age-specific, per policy) for provider visit.
  • Performing those aspects of triage and nursing care requiring professional judgment and skills.
  • Exercising judgment requiring independent action and/or the need to seek more expert assistance.
  • Provides triage advice and guidance in accordance with the Health Center’s established policies and procedures for patients and their families.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.

Certifications/Licenses
  • Must possess a valid NJ Registration as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current CPR Certification and at least six (6) months experience in clinical nursing.
  • Basic Life Support Certification

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Incumbent must be trained in infection control procedures and protocols.
  • Position involves exposure to blood and body fluids, which requires caution and use of established safety and infection control guidelines.
  • Position requires the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, read and execute standing orders and accurately document clinical findings.
  • Incumbent must be able to push and/or pull supply carts, possess the ability to use a computer, including keyboarding, entering and retrieving data, utilizing a video display terminal to receive or audit data and/or information.
  • Work requires a high level of problem-solving skills involving the nursing process, computer systems, human resources and University policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish speaking).

  • Physical Demands: The incumbent must be able to stand, talk or hear over 2/3rd of the time; walk 2/3 of the time; sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel reach with hands and arms, climb or balance or stoop, kneel crouch or crawl under 1/3rd of the time. This position requires lifting up to 25 pounds under 1/3rd of the time.

Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster upon eligibility and upload proof of same. Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Additional infection control and safety policies may apply.
