Purpose of the position
The Project and Reliability Engineer provide technical and project management services to produce high quality Dyneema Purity in a safe, cost-effective manner while maintaining excellent safety, human relations, and environmental standards.
Position context
The Project and Reliability Engineer will operate within the organizational structure to provide project non-capital, small/large capital support and reliability support to the APM (Avient Protective Materials) business group. The person in this role will interact with all staff and external contractors/vendors. They will maintain expertise on corporate project guidelines and Reliability requirements. They will initiate, implement, and follow-up on projects and will interact with corporate and local colleagues to keep the Medical facility within guidelines and to provide excellent results. They will analyze performance data and take action to improve asset utilization.
Position content
Key areas of accountability/responsibility
- Translate site objectives into a wholistic Preventive & Predictive Maintenance Plan (PPM) in cooperation with maintenance management.
- Responsible for life cycle of electrical and instrumentation components, review specifications of equipment and spare parts and recommend replacement for obsolete parts, following change control.
- Continuously develop and optimize the PPM
- Lead RCA (Root Cause Analysis) and FMEA (Failure Mode & Effect Analysis).
- Monitors and analyzes repetitive manufacturing problems. Determines the root cause for manufacturing and equipment failures and initiate equipment or procedural changes to correct the problem.
- Prepares and submits requests for equipment (major and minor) replacements and additions.
- Project/Improvement - initiate, implement, and follow-up on projects to maximize performance of the MAP1 production site
- Propose and initiate solutions to eliminate actual and potential performance killers and cost drivers and discuss with stakeholders (maintenance, production, business, etc.). Ensure handover to appropriate work process.
- Develops plans to reduce COGS by continuously improving efficiencies, processing times, reducing labor and material costs, reducing maintenance costs, and controlling expense budgets.
- Maintains compliance with environmental programs. Promotes waste reduction and recovery projects and incorporate associated operations in applicable manufacturing processes. Identifies opportunities to minimize waste and to actively recycle. Pursues project approaches that will minimize utility consumption and environmental emissions.
- Manage all aspects of selected equipment upgrade and equipment addition projects, from generation of basic engineering through final commissioning. Manage projects to stay within budget and schedule. Coordinate project activities with Maintenance turnarounds.
- Prepares, reviews, and approves production records including maintenance procedures, operating procedures, JSA’s, and change requests as required.
- Interacts with Technicians as necessary to ensure effective communication of production and compliance related changes in procedures. Conducts formalized training for operative/technical personnel as necessary.

Complexity of the job
Projects implemented and changes recommended by the Project and Reliability Engineer will directly impact manufacturing performance and cost.
Knowledge and educational level
MS in related technical field (Engineering or other physical science) with 3 years industry related experience; OR BS/BA in related technical field with 5 years industry related experience; OR AA/AS in related technical field with 6 years industry related experience or 7 years of related engineering experience.
Required level of experiences
- Advanced problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Diversified knowledge of multiple engineering specialties - including mechanical, chemical, electrical, and civil.
- Experience managing projects more than $50k.
- Experience with good maintenance practices for equipment installation, preventative maintenance and equipment troubleshooting.
- Must be willing to respond to all types of emergencies and spend overtime hours in monitoring scheduled work when required.
- Experience with predictive maintenance; vibration analysis, Thermography, oil analysis, ultrasonic leak detection, motor circuit analysis.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft Windows® applications to include Microsoft Excel®; Microsoft Outlook®; Microsoft Project®, and Microsoft Access®.
- Experience in textiles manufacturing is highly preferred.
