Job Description

A Research Assistant Professor position to be filled at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute (FBRI) in the Addiction Recovery Research Center (ARRC), directed by Dr. Warren K. Bickel. This work will focus on NIH funded projects that are providing new information about addiction, health behaviors, and decision making. Several projects, including two projects from NIH P01 grants, are focusing on the use of the Experimental Tobacco Marketplace to investigate choice behavior and policy impacts among nicotine users from a behavioral economics framework. Other projects and responsibilities are focusing on community engagement and developing community infrastructure to improve health communications and health outcomes. Moreover, ARRC has ongoing projects to examine long-term recovery from and intervention development for substance use disorders. The position is well suited for an individual interested in technology applications and behavioral economics in addiction and health behavior. Furthermore, this position will be delegated leadership roles in developing pilot research programs in the areas of tobacco policy, addiction, decision making and community engagement.

Responsibilities include; 1. Research Conceptualization with and collaboration with the PI in the design of experiments and grant proposal methodology as well as methods for analyzing the results of experiments. 2. Research Publications, including preparation of text, tables, and graphical information as appropriate for dissemination in peer reviewed publications, or presentation at professional conferences or in book chapters. 3. Data Analysis that involves data management, analyzing the data, and transforming the results into findings appropriate for dissemination in peer reviewed publications or conference presentations or in formats that engender further analyses. 4. Experimental Project Management that includes training and supervising research personnel to organize and conduct study sessions and online studies. 5. Supervision of a research team doing community outreach work in collaboration with external co-investigators that will build relationships with local and regional public housing authorities to create a local community network to help answer research questions that will improve public health. 6. Research strategy development to organize and integrate preliminary data into rationale for new aims and prepare proposals to obtain sponsored funding.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in psychology, neuroscience, behavior analysis or appropriate related discipline and have a record of postdoctoral research excellence as indicated by peer reviewed publications and presentations.
  • Solid background in addiction or health behaviors research and/or behavioral economics.
  • Experience supervising and mentoring research teams that include employees and students in addiction research and clinical trials.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with behavior analysis and/or addiction research clinical trials.
