Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Data Associate.

The Spanish Speaking Research Data Associate position within the Department of Population Health will contribute to the implementation and support of NIH-funded (1R01DA055675-01) and other studies in the Section on Tobacco, Alcohol and Drug Use. The position is supervised by Principal Investigator (PI) Dr. Omar El-Shahawy and the study coordinator. The Spanish Speaking Research Data Associate will work with the research team on active research studies related to substance use disorders and harm reduction. Within Dr. El-Shahawys lab (IDEAS lab), the Spanish Speaking Research Data Associate will work on his NIH/ NIDA funded R01 to test the effectiveness of e-cigarettes in smoking harm reduction among adult ( 21 years) combustible cigarette smokers in opioid use disorder methadone and buprenorphine treatment programs.

The Spanish Speaking Research Data Associate will be responsible for collaborating with the research team and working independently within the scientific framework of the PIs lab. The Spanish Speaking Research Data Associate will report to the study coordinator and work closely with other staff and external partners to support day-to-day operations with project coordination responsibilities. The Spanish Speaking Research Data Associate will be assigned to work on different assignments and tasks between projects based on real-time needs of projects, and will be assigned to interact primarily with study participants who are Spanish speakers within the frame of the job responsibilities outlined below.

    • Maintain a thorough knowledge of the research studies and procedures
    • Conduct surveys and qualitative research interviews with study subjects. Assist with their analysis and interpretation, as well as help with the preparation of study findings.
    • Update necessary documents required by the NYU Institutional Board (IRB) and appropriate parties in order to obtain approval to the study. Support data registries, including ensuring the quality and completeness of research data. Organize and maintain research records.
    • Conduct recruitment and screening of study populations remotely and in the field.
    • Help organize study meetings, maintain communication with study team members and external partners.
    • Help identify and participate in the resolution of potential and actual problems in study operations and participant activities.
    • Assist with regulatory procedures required by the NYU Institutional Board (IRB) and external IRBs in order to maintain approval to conduct human subjects’ research.
    • Help gather program data for grant reports and presentations
    • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
    • Make contributions to scientific papers, authorship merit will be determined on the level of contribution. Serve as co-author for reports and presentations.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Associate's degree plus one year related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Computer literate with good interpersonal, writing and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience and Skills:
Minimum of associates degree plus one year related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
A bachelors degree, preferably in a health related field such as psychology, epidemiology, health science, etc is a plus. Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience using REDCap, with institutional review boards (submissions, modifications, regulatory handbook, etc) and research protocols.
Bilingual (English/Spanish).
Demonstrated ability to organize complex tasks and meet deadlines.
Effective oral, written, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency with software applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
Experience with research studies involving human subjects.
Must be able to follow study protocol rigorously.
Ability to work within a team environment as well as independently.
Effective organizational skills and attention to detail.
Time management skills and ability to work well under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with REDCap.
Familiarity with working in health care settings.
Experience with delivering behavioral counseling (in person or telehealth) is plus.
