Job Summary:
This position is for a laboratory technician for the Upstate Biorepository. Responsibilities include: (1) process and store human specimens (blood, urine, saliva, and tissue) according to lab protocols and in coordination with surgical/clinical teams, nursing staff, and pathology team; (2) distribute and ship specimens to customers; (3) prepare reagents, labels, and specimen collection kits; (4) keep detailed and accurate records; (5) perform data entry into lab databases; (6) perform general lab housekeeping and equipment maintenance; (7) order supplies; (8) assist Biobank Coordinator with other tasks as needed; (9) complete all SUNY Upstate Medical University required training; (10) follow all outlined safety procedures and work in a manner that is consistent with Good Clinical and Good Laboratory Practice requirements. Must be available to check on critical lab equipment on a rotating basis for up to one-hour on the weekend.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in life sciences (e.g. biology, chemistry, etc.) or related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
At least one year of experience in a lab. Experience with handling
human blood and other human samples.
Work Days:
Monday through Friday Days; also includes rotating weekend hours
