Retail Sales Associate – Lumber Yard
Hours: Full-Time Pay range: $17.00 - $24.00 / hour
BENEFITS Eligible employees are provided individual medical plans through Kaiser and Western Health Advantage. Additional coverage and family medical plans are available with additional employee contribution. Voluntary plans for Dental, Vision and Life Insurance are available with employee contribution. 401k retirement plan is available to eligible employees with safe harbor match contribution of 100% of what they contribute, up to 4% of salary. Eligible employees accrue 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, with a maximum 24 hours accrual per calendar year and a cap of 48 hours. Unpaid time-off may be taken after request and upon supervisor approval. OBJECTIVE Provide customer service to retail customers utilizing knowledge of sales and industry. Assist customers and contractors by providing quotes and product information, both in person and over the phone. Sales associates are focused on customer service and finding and solving customer needs. Handling walkup customers, special orders and advanced pricing. The primary responsibility of the Retail Sales Associate is to assist do-it-yourself and contractor customers by assisting with lumber selection and providing customers with a shopping atmosphere that is well maintained, clean, organized and safe.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide customer service primarily to retail customers, via walk-in, telephone or email, including assisting with customer inquiries on product selection, pricing, availability, refunds/exchanges requiring a working knowledge of company products, procedures and practices.
2. Actively engages in selling company products/services and related items, providing material estimates and quotes for small packages.
3. Enters orders into system and schedules delivery of products.
4. Handles and resolves simple customer complaints and forwards more complex issues to more senior staff for resolution.
5. Keeping store clean is an important part of maintaining a safe working environment. Trash, banding, scraps, etc. all need to picked up regularly to assure our stores are as safe as possible.
6. Engaging and interacting with costumers, asking about project needs, get to know them, find out if they have any other building material needs and building long-term relationships.
7. Attend and participate in all Company sponsored training and safety programs as required.
8. Perform any other duties, responsibilities or tasks as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school education; and one to two years related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other Associates of the organization. Bilingual and multilingual is a plus.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES A certificate issued by prior employer or outside vendor on the correct and safe operation of a forklift is desirable.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS Good Customer Service skills are necessary. Ability to operate a forklift is desirable. Knowledge of building materials products and lumber is highly desirable. Must be dependable, due to the nature and responsibilities of this position, dependable regular attendance is required and ability to work a flexible schedule including Saturdays.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the Associate is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The Associate must regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, employee will regularly work near moving mechanical parts. Sales associate is primarily indoors and at times will be required to be in outside weather conditions. Employee while at work will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
