The new Platform Capabilities R&D Team strives to develop next-generation building blocks for chromatography resins that serve customer needs in bioprocess purification. We are seeking a laboratory scientist who will enjoy applying their complementary subject-matter expertise to design, synthesize, and characterize innovative polymeric substrates. A Day in the Life:
- Build libraries of new polymeric substrates through robust experimental design and diligent execution of multistep suspension polymerization reactions
- Apply and develop knowledge in technical fundamentals to address prototyping challenges and supply innovative ideas to our pipeline
- Expand team understanding of structure-property relationships by selecting and operating appropriate material characterization tools, analyzing data, and reporting results
- Collaborate with R&D peers and cross-functional colleagues to refine product design concepts and manage expectations
- Uphold a positive safety and quality culture
Keys to Success
Education
PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Polymer Science, or a related field; MS degree with 3+ years experience; BS degree with 5+ years experience
Experience
- Laboratory synthesis or formulation experience, preferably involving monomers, polymers, or phase-separating systems and possibly with DOE methodology
- Experience delivering project completion to timeline
- Teamwork experience including sharing data, problem-solving, and collaborating
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Knowledgeable in at least one of the following areas: polymer chemistry, phase-separating systems, emulsions, porous materials, or resin formulation
- Skilled at written and verbal communication, documenting and sharing experimental methods, data, outcomes, and conclusions to diverse audiences
- Ability to identify issues and adapt experiments on-the-fly, a skill facilitated by strong attention to detail and a willingness to ask for help
- Ability and interest in learning to operate laboratory synthesis and particle characterization equipment such as filtration reactors, mercury porosimeters, and benchtop SEMs
- Skilled at prioritization and navigating ambiguity with a positive demeanor
