In this role, you will train, supervise and evaluate the performance for a team of over 40 security officers and 2 sergeants to ensure a safe environment for our 47,000 employees and nearly two million patients each year. Design, implement, and manage programs that help meet the professional development needs of staff. Assist with the preparation of security-related budgets. Provide administrative support to the Director of Security. Regularly assess security operations to identify opportunities for improvement, helping us build on our success.

Essential Job Duties

  • Supervises the sergeants and officers on daily activities. This includes: completing all assignments related to their positions, ensuring post are covered, that all hospital and college buildings are inspected on a daily basis, ensure staff get designated breaks, ensure hospital or department policies and procedures are followed, respond to situations involving security issues, assisting sergeants in the performance of their duties and other employees when necessary.
  • Plans activities of all shifts which include: the scheduling and coordination of staff for supervision, post assignments, vacations, holidays and sick time; complete all required forms and reports relating to officer and sergeant schedules; properly organize the sergeants and the officers work time to accomplish all required tasks. Initiates programs, policies and procedures to solve problems related to scheduling and shift activities.
  • Makes certain that investigation protocols and documentation adhere to the strict standards set by the department. Collaborates with local, state, or national agencies relative to security investigations.
  • Ensures electronic and data security systems are appropriately managed. This includes: CCTV systems, Infant Protection System, phones, intercom, oxygen system alarms, radio systems, Morse Watchman tour system, access control computer, video ID system, electronic key box, e-mail and all other department computer programs.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, selection and orientation of employees in assigned areas. Provides work direction, assign and/or schedules work, conducts on-the-job training, answers job related questions. Monitors performance and adherence to attendance policies. Prepares performance evaluations and recommends appropriate personnel actions for staff, relative to promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action up to and including termination. Assists in the interpretation, development and implementation of Hospital personnel and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Identifies staff needs and facilitates development programs for newly hired and current security personnel to meet the prescribed standards of achievement as defined by the department and regulatory agencies. Works with Staff on the Infant protection system, along with audits, in-services and drills. Enhances own professional growth and development through participation in education programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.
  • Ensures policies and procedures are up-to-date, well organized and easily accessible to staff. Communicates need for new policies and procedures to Senior Leadership. Drafts and implements new or revised departmental policies and procedures as contained in the Security & Parking (eliminate parking) Policy and Procedure Manual. Utilizes audit results, quality assurance reports and survey results to improve quality of service.
  • Makes certain proper documentation and implementation of discipline and work performance of Sergeants and officers. Prepares annual reviews for staff. This includes: documentation of each incident, counseling and consistent application of discipline policies. Works with supervisors and human resources on corrective counseling or disciplinary action in response to unsatisfactory or unprofessional behavior exhibited by any member of the department.
  • Ensures that all reported incidents are recorded and follow-up investigation is completed. They are to ensure all reports are completed properly, writing is neat and legible, and all sergeants’ review reports daily. Reviews all security incident reports and shift reports.
  • Possesses advanced knowledge of the fire alarm systems and the fire safety process at the David H. Koch Center.
  • Ensures that all reports and forms are completed, properly distributed and stored. This includes: incident report, logbooks, vehicle tracking forms, ID signature sheets, engineering logs, daily reports, statistical sheets, recovery, attendance records, vacation, sick and holiday recovery.
  • Provides administrative support as necessary to the Security Site Director and fills in for the Security Site Director when they are off-duty and completes all assignments designated by the Security Site Director.
  • Conducts, supervises and participates in administrative staff meetings and special conferences. Attends other meetings and conferences as required.
  • Assists in developing departmental budgets. Maintains department records, reports and files as required. Collects statistical data for administrative and regulatory purposes. Reviews weekly payroll records.
  • Evaluates safety threats and develops programs and strategies to minimize/eliminate the challenges they pose. Reviews occupational behaviors, environmental vulnerabilities and ensures all methods and materials comply with federal, state and local safety standards.
  • Manages all VIP’s that enter and utilize the facilities. The manager will coordinate activities with Patient Service and all other departments to ensure a quiet and uneventful visit to the hospital.
  • Acts as an administrative liaison between department and city service organizations; particularly the Police and Fire Departments.
  • Performs all duties inherent to managerial role. Participates in hiring, training, evaluation and termination of assigned staff according to hospital policies and procedures.


Preferred Criteria

  • College experience preferred in Security or related field
  • Certified Protection Professional (CPP) by the American Society for Industrial Security Organization (ASIS)
  • MOAB Instructor Certified
  • Professional Law Enforcement background as a senior management level
  • NYS Mandated Security Officer Training
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English

Required Criteria

  • High school diploma
  • 5+ years’ experience as a manager/supervisor
  • 5+ years’ experience in security or related field
  • 5+ years’ experience in Executive Production, Healthcare Investigations and Special Event Security
  • Knowledge of Criminal Investigation and Penal & Civil Law and Management Skills
  • Knowledge of Computers
  • Knowledge of Fire Safety
  • Knowledge of Management and Training Skills
