Job Summary
Alliant Energy is looking for people to join our Semi-Skilled Laborer - Garage Mechanic position in Fond du Lac, WI.
This program takes individuals with a can-do attitude and willingness to learn and teaches them the skills needed to transition into an Alliant Energy apprenticeship position. You will work alongside our Garage Mechanic crews to learn more about the trade.

This program will be completed in 18 months with on-the-job training directly working with a Garage Mechanic. We have an experienced team of technicians dedicated to making the duration of the program well rounded, challenging, and valuable. Upon successful completion of the program, you will be assigned to an apprenticeship position within the Alliant -WPL territory.
Our teams are supported by strong leadership and have a trusted commitment to safety and ethics.
What you will do
- Performs miscellaneous semi-skilled physical work required in any activity of the Company.
- Examples: Learn to change oil, understand tools and parts. Duties would include helping during repairs and making parts runs.
- Performs other duties which are similar, related or incidental to this position.
Education Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
Preferred Experience
- Previous work or internship experience or mechanical technical school experience.
Other Requirements
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License prior to the end of trial period
- This position is covered by the Department of Transportation regulations on drug/alcohol testing (CFR 49, Parts 40 and 382), and is subject to drug/alcohol testing according to said regulations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to read, interpret and work from manufacturers’ operational and technical manuals.
- Knowledge and application of hand tools as used in a mechanics trade.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions and to perform semi-skilled work.
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job.
- Ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse work group.
