Senior Accountant Job at Southwest Foodservice Excellence
Summary of Position:
The senior accountant is responsible for applying accepted accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, Statistics, or a related field is required.
- CPA, CMA and/or MBA preferred.
- Prior school foodservice experience desired
- Experience with QuickBooks, Excel (Expert in Microsoft Excel and Power Point; experience with macros preferred), Power Point and Outlook
- 5-6 years’ experience in accounting is required.
- Effective Communication Skills (Written & Verbal).
- Knowledge of auditing practices and principles.
- Ability to succeed in a team environment.
- Customer Service Oriented.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Understanding of accounting processes, procedure and internal controls.
- Ability to adapt quickly and learn new tasks independently.

Responsibilities:
- Compile and analyze financial information to prepare financial statements including monthly and annual accounts
- Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted policies and procedures
- Make certain all financial reporting deadlines are met
- Prepare financial management reports
- Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close processes
- Establish and monitor the implementation and maintenance of accounting control procedures
- Resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities
- Continuous management and support of budget and forecast activities
- Calculate, prepare and file necessary tax filings for all state & federal jurisdictions.
- Develop and maintain financial databases
- Prepare for financial audit and coordinate the audit process
- Oversee accurate and appropriate recording and analysis of revenues and expenses
- Perform Balance Sheet account reconciliations, account analysis, accrual calculations, and other related accounting documents/schedules.
- Prepare journal entries.
- Evaluate and advise on business operations including revenue and expenditure trends, financial commitments and future revenues
- Collect and analyze financial information to recommend or develop efficient use of resources and procedures, provide strategic recommendations and maintain solutions to business and financial problems
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations and integrity of financial data
- Responsible for performing special projects to improve process efficiency and performance.
- Cross train as back-ups for other staff in the case of emergencies.
- Review and research accounting transactions.
- Fully understand and comply with all applicable federal, state, county and municipal laws, regulations and rules including those that pertain to health, safety and labor requirements in regards to SFE and district employees and customers and operations.
- Exercise sound judgment and discretion with respect to any matter not specifically addressed by the Company’s policies.
- Other functions, duties and responsibilities as may be assigned or which are necessary or appropriate to the position.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
Ability to speak, read, write and understand English and/or dominate language at the school
Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 5 hours)
Be physically able to lift, reach, bend and stoop frequently lift up to 25 pounds
