Position: Senior Counsel

Role Overview: Reporting to the Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, the Senior Counsel provides legal counsel in support of the organization’s legal affairs in furtherance of the organization’s cultural, educational, and civic mission, with a focus on drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and advising on a wide variety of contracts.

What you’ll get to do here:

  • Supporting the Legal team with drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide variety of contracts and advising on a range of legal issues to ensure that the best interests of the organization are served
  • Initially, serving as the primary contact on the Legal team for the IT and Education Departments
  • Serving as the lead legal advisor to the IT Department will include specific focus on contracts, issues and policies related to technology, cybersecurity and privacy
  • Serving as the lead legal advisor to the Education Department will include specific focus on contracts, issues and policies related to educational and artistic programs, programs for minors, and agreements with teaching artists and organizations across New York City for education initiatives
  • Over time, expanding your portfolio to include contracts and issues which may relate to artistic commissions, co-productions, intellectual property matters, operations, venue rentals, sponsorships, donor agreements, media production, sweepstakes/promotions, employment and DEIA+ issues, policies, and other matters within the core mission and ancillary activities of the organization
  • Serving as an ambassador for Lincoln Center’s Legal team by participating in Legal team initiatives, including conducting legal educational presentations for internal departments, interacting and working with outside counsel, law students, and other members of the non-profit community, and developing templates and processes to achieve efficiency in contracting
  • Working collaboratively and proactively with the other members of the Legal team, Lincoln Center colleagues across all departments, and other Lincoln Center community members to meet the diversified legal needs of a complex, multi-faceted organization, and drive Lincoln Center’s strategic objectives

The ideal candidate is an independent, analytical thinker, proactive team player and resourceful problem solver, with superb legal skills and judgment, excellent contract drafting, writing and communications skills, strong business acumen and ability to deliver commercial-minded advice, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, demonstrated ability to juggle competing priorities in a timely, efficient manner in a fast-paced environment, and a desire to learn and apply new areas of the law.

  • 5+ years of legal experience directly related to the work specified above
  • JD, Member of NY State Bar
  • Significant contracts/transactional experience
  • Non-profit and/or in-house experience is a plus
  • Appreciation and enthusiasm for the arts is a plus
