JOB TITLE: SENIOR DATA ENGINEER
Job Description: The Senior Data Engineer at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin will design and develop engineering data solutions, modernizing, consolidating, and coordinating business needs across several applications. Analyze business and functional specifications to deliver high-quality data solutions while maintaining development best practices and optimizing maintainability and supportability. Apply engineering best practices in order to analyze, design, develop, deploy and support software solutions. Work on new solutions and enhancements and maintenance of existing solutions. Take ownership of issues and assignments and move between diverse tasks. Participate in an Agile implementation and maintenance of source control and release procedures. Perform batch and near real-time data integration. Conduct data engineering and development. Utilize ETL and/or Informatica to build both batch and real-time data engineering solutions using Informatica CDC and run continuous functionality. Work with relational databases including DB2 LUW, MySQL, Sybase, DB2 z/OS. Write and review complex SQL statements and performance tuning. Utilize Unix/Linux scripting. Apply data security experience. Work with Cloud data solutions. Develop messaged-based data engineering solutions including using Kafka. Review code and testing and provide actionable feedback. Work with various domains of data at Northwestern Mutual including client, risk product, investment product, and field to support development and timely support of production issues. Manage the work for assigned features or projects and create Jira cards accordingly. Leverage GitLab to manage code in multiple environments. Perform development methodologies across various technologies. Telecommuting permissible up to 2 days per week. Salary $119,184-$137,000 per year.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Applications or related field plus 5 years of data engineering, software engineering, debugging, analysis, and software documentation experience. 5 years of experience must include 2 years of experience with the following: (1) Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) including SQL Server, DB2, and Cloud Databases; (2) extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) tools including Information to process and load data; (3) Structured Query Language (SQL) and writing queries; (4) Unix and Linux scripting; (5) Autosys and Database Tools; (6) Cloud; (7) coding with Python, JVM (Java and Scala), Apache, Spark, and SQL; and (8) Agile methodologies and DevOps environment.
