Requirements

Job Purpose/Background: We are looking for an experienced Senior Wind Operations Manager who will be accountable for an assigned and growing wind portfolio. The role will report to the Vice President of Operations and has the potential to have associate-level team members report directly to them. This role will work alongside a small team of Operations and Asset Management professionals. As a small and evolving firm, the responsibilities will be broad, varied, and all-encompassing. The role is based on a hybrid schedule in our office in Portland, Maine, Montpelier, VT, or New York, NY. Remote position considered for an exceptional candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the Operation and Maintenance (O&M) of multiple contractors in numerous utility- scale wind facilities. Encompassing wind turbine operations and balance of plant services.
  • Mange negations and enforcement of an entire suite of operations agreements, including Master Vendor Agreements, Power Purchase Agreements, Operations and Maintenance Agreements, and other Service Agreements.
  • Ability to create Requests for Proposals (RFPs) to ensure the best vendor selection and outcome for project initiatives.
  • Ability to conduct concise Cost Benefit Analyses (CBAs) to ensure the best outcome for project initiatives.
  • Ability to wear multiple hats while effectively managing multiple projects within an assigned portfolio.
  • Oversee the maintenance of wind field equipment or structures, such as towers, transformers, electrical collector systems, roadways, substations, or other site assets.
  • Prepare and manage operational budgets.
  • Manage warranty repairs and replacement services.
  • Manage major and minor corrective maintenance events with the utmost attention to safety.
  • Ensure environmental curtailments are appropriately implemented, and losses reported (not limited to avian curtailments).
  • Assist the Asset Management team with Landower relations.
  • Daily monitoring of wind site performances via Power Factors, One View, SCADA, Greenbyte, SparkCognition, etc.
  • Improve plant performances by identifying failures and proactively initiating corrective actions.
  • Responsible for meeting operation KPIs with an understanding and emphasis on EBITA.
  • Guide site performance evaluations and inspections.
  • Data gathering and report creation to support insurance claim initiatives.
  • Monitor and implement centralized access to Condition Monitoring Systems.
  • Lead executive-level internal and external stakeholder reviews and technical discussions.
  • Create a protocol to identify and proactively request remote access during project onboarding (SCADA, RTU, OPC, etc.)
  • Daily, monthly, quarterly, annually, and ad hoc project reporting obligations and presentations.
  • Provide technical supervision for retrofits and validation of performance enhancements.
  • Lead the Functional Technical Support during Root Cause Analysis (RCA) programs
  • Provide due diligence and technical review of wind project acquisitions, mergers, and sales.

Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes:

  • 7+ years of experience in a wind operation management related role. Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering degree preferred.
  • Solution-driven, ensuring best outcome solutions are presented confidently and accurately.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft products.
  • Experience in electricity market regulatory matters (FERC, NERC, ERCOT, ISO, DOE, etc.)
  • Familiarity with REC markets.
  • Deep experience with plant operations, regulatory compliance, contract management, and financial and technical reporting on wind assets.
  • Experience with environmental-related affairs, including correspondence with government entities.
  • Strong wind data background with the ability to analyze large datasets.
  • Expert in all turbine SCADA.
  • Familiarity, education, or experience with renewable energy project construction preferred.
  • Familiarity, education, or experience with onsite major corrective events, including crane mobilization and operations.
  • Highly skilled and experienced in problem-solving and issue resolutions within the renewable energy sector
  • Highly proficient in learning and implementing new software tools and maximizing their full potential.
  • Detail oriented and well-organized.
  • People management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage workload autonomously and effectively.
  • A team player who enjoys a friendly but professional team dynamic.
  • Availability to travel (up to 40%)
  • Climbing turbines is mandatory. Prove of valid turbine climbing certificate or passing a market well recognized turbine climbing training is mandatory to obtain the job.
