The User Behavior & Economics team leverages the power of empirical research to study how networks are being used by consumers today to produce economic analysis, build usage forecasts, and derive insights on how behavior may evolve over time. The team’s research is mostly used to inform product, marketing, and technologies strategies of CableLabs’ member companies. However, the team also works closely with other groups at the company to complement primary market research and inform innovation efforts.


This Senior Strategist position exists to conduct, support, and communicate the team’s research to both internal and external stakeholders. Success requires not only the ability to combine data analysis and visualization skills with a strategic mindset, but also strong communication and story-telling skills.


Duties and Responsibilities


  • Create and support empirical research that can be shared with internal and external stakeholders. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
    • Identify and participate in ideation of research topics
    • Prepare and process data needed for analysis
    • Create work outputs, either in a written or presentation format, that clearly convey the key insights of the work and how it relates back to core business strategies
    • Work collaboratively with other team members and colleagues
    • Communicate results to stakeholders during meetings or company events
    • Provide research assistance to other team members
    • Identify how research output should be tailored for different audiences
    • Maintain, evolve, and update regularly released forecasting models and usage summaries as new data or information is gathered
    • Occasional support and maintenance of team compute, storage, and data assets; this is a shared responsibility across team members
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills

  • Strong analytical skills, able to derive compelling outputs from data that clearly communicate insights
  • Broad understanding of business strategy, technology, and microeconomics
  • Ability to work with large data sets to produce quantitative research
  • Proficient in Python, R, Microsoft Office, common data modeling techniques, and PostgreSQL
  • Proactive, willing to take initiative, and receptive to feedback on projects
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to deliver clear, concise results of analysis, support assertions with data, and ability to defend explanations
  • Willing to learn about the cable industry, our stakeholders, the larger ecosystem our industry sits in, emerging technologies, and personal development in skills that may be needed for specific projects
  • A broad thinker that is hypothesis driven, objective, and willing to question and revise assumptions and beliefs as new data presents itself


Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Applied Marketing, or Engineering
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience focused on empirical research, data analysis and visualization or a related field; time completing a masters or doctoral degree in a related discipline or program can count toward minimum experience
  • Experience presenting and debating results of research
  • Experience either as a research assistant or leading research projects with guidance given by leadership


Working conditions and physical requirements:

This job operates in a professional office and lab environment. This role routinely uses standard office and lab equipment. May be required to lift, move and transport equipment and/or materials up to 25lbs.
