Patterson & Dewar Engineers is seeking a senior substation engineer to join our Atlanta team to serve our investor-owned utility and industrial clients. The Senior Substation Protection & Controls Engineer will be responsible for the protection and controls design of electrical substations, QA/QC and will lead a team of engineers, technicians and designers. The ideal candidate will also be client facing and will be responsible for nurturing the relationship with our clients by building trust with the clients and producing quality work.

Responsibilities

· Protection & Control designs for electrical substations, both new construction and upgrades/retrofits

· Prepare and review documents and drawings. These include one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, plan-section drawings, foundation, grounding drawings, protection and control schematic development, wiring diagrams, panel elevations, SCADA, communications, conduit and cable sizing/routing, AC & DC diagrams & calculations, grounding and shielding study, equipment specifications and Bill of Materials.

· Preparing bid, construction, and as-built documents

· Perform job cost estimates

· Develop proposals (scope of work, estimate, etc.)

· Perform substation testing and commissioning, as needed

· Field visits including pre-engineering, pre-construction and post-construction inspections

· Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards (i.e. NEC, NESC, IEEE)

· Develop proficiency with the applications and tools necessary to complete projects requested by clients

· Lead QA/QC process and sign off on engineering documents

· Manage team of engineers, technicians and designers

· Build & manage relationships with clients

· Stay informed of client, industry, and company news and developments

· Learn and remain aware of the services and skills offered by all departments within the company

· Align company capabilities with the needs of existing and potential clients; find opportunities to offer additional relevant services

Skills and Qualifications

· Service-oriented mindset and attitude, towards client and team

· Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems

· Proficient with AutoCAD Electrical

· 10+ years of experience in substation protection & controls design

· 5+ years of engineering experience working with Southern Company Services

· A BS in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university

· Registered Professional Engineer (preferrable)

· Proficiency with Microsoft® Office (required), and Office 365 and SharePoint (preferred)

· The ability and willingness to travel approximately 25% annually

The Candidate may be asked to work extended hours occasionally to meet project deadlines. Candidates must pass a background check prior to employment.
