Hours: 19 hours/week: Mornings, Evenings, and Multiple Saturdays Required
Salary: Range depending on qualifications and experience:
$16.00 - $20.00 with an MLIS
$13.00 - $17.00 without an MLIS

The Linda Sokol Francis Brookfield Library, serving a community of nearly 20,000 and home to the world famous Brookfield Zoo, seeks its next Youth Services Assistant. The selected candidate will be expected to work within a team of peers to provide a diverse range of professional library services including planning and presenting library classes and events, collection development, staffing the reference desk, instructing library members in the use of electronic and print resources, and a variety of related tasks. The position reports directly to the Youth Services Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Works under the direct supervision of the Youth Services Manager as part of the Youth Services team in providing Library services to the community.
Provides reference and reader's advisory services and instructs members in the use of library resources, including reference materials, catalogs, computer, and interlibrary loan procedures.
Creates displays and bibliographies to highlight book collections or services.
Organizes, weeds, and maintains assigned collections.
Plans and delivers classes and events, and conducts outreach to area partners.
Performs related work as required.
Education, Training, and Experience: A Bachelor’s degree, MLISdegree or in progress, OR comparable education or experience preferred. Any equivalent combination of education and/or training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered.
Preferred Competencies: Some knowledge of the principles and practices of public library functions is preferred.
Experience in current technology including digital reading platforms, maker technology, and Microsoft Office a plus.
Basic working knowledge of print and non-print reference tools and procedures and the ability to provide basic instruction on the same.
Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
