What You’ll Do
Skills trainers help youth and families live healthier and more fulfilling lives through building skills they need to succeed. These skills focus primarily on activities of daily living and social interaction.

Primary duties include:
  • Identifying needed skills
  • Working with youth and families one-on-one to develop skills such as:
    • Identifying and expressing feelings in a positive way
    • Cooperating with peers and adults
    • Communicating needs in a healthy manner
    • Organizing self for home, school and activities
    • Managing impulsive behavior and anger
    • Making better choices and solving problems
    • Helping clients put their newly-learned skills into practice through assigned work and encouragement
    • Documenting all client interaction electronically
    • Interacting directly with clients, face to face
    • Meeting with youth and/or their families two or three times a week for one to two hours at a time
    • Interacting frequently with outpatient or residential therapists, physicians, other treatment providers involved in the case, community agencies, referral sources and other services
  • Hours will include availability in the evenings and/or weekends
  • Caseload expectations will take into account training, case complexity, level of frequency and/or other assigned duties.
  • Some specialized skills trainers work with youth transitioning into independence

Minimum Hiring Requirements:
  • BA/BS in social service or a human services-related field preferred OR
  • Associate degree with two years experience in a social service setting.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance
