Social Services Coordinator, City Attorney's Office (Non-Civil Service) Job at City of Dallas, TX
Position Purpose
The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
Supervises or coordinates casework activities for social service programs to provide counseling and skills training for people requesting social welfare services.
Essential Functions
1. Supervises the work of subordinate caseworkers by reviewing client treatment plans and client progress through the social service program to ensure that clients receive appropriate services and interventions.
2. Performs initial assessments of clients to verify eligibility for participation in the programs, develop a treatment plan for the client, or to assign cases to the appropriate counselor.
3. Conducts group skills training for clients and their families to teach coping and other life skills to enable clients and families to effectively manage problems.
4. Counsels clients and families by developing a client treatment plan to ensure that individuals receive appropriate services and interventions.
5. Maintains contacts with various social service agencies and awareness of the scope of services available to make client referrals for additional social services.
6. Evaluates program effectiveness through conducting follow-up interviews and surveys and documenting utilization of services to recommend changes in service delivery policy or procedures that will best meet client needs.
7. Provides continued training to subordinate caseworkers on treatment and skills training methods to enhance the counseling skills of subordinate caseworkers.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology or sociology field. Three (3) years social work experience providing individual, family or group counseling; social service program development, implementation and evaluation; or group life skills training. Requires effective written/oral communication skills, MSOffice or similar software skills, valid driver's license, good driving record and personal vehicle plus ability to establish relationships with neighborhood groups and to make community presentations. Must pass background check and be available for evenings and/or weekends. Spanish/English bilingual skills a plus. Master's degree in Social Work will substitute for two (2) years of the required experience. Bachelor's degree in other fields plus five (5) years of specified experience qualifies.
For position(s) in Senior Services: three (3) or more years experience working with senior citizens is a plus.
For positions(s) in ReConnect/Ex-Offender ReEntry Program: experience providing case management to previously incarcerated homeless individuals required. Experience working with individuals with HIV/AIDS is a plus. Position conducts onsite visits to client's residence, provides life skills training and interacts with potential landlords for housing placement of individuals.
For position(s) in Shelter Plus Care Program as well as Comprehensive Homeless Services: experience in housing services fro homeless individuals/families is required. Position provides case management to clients requiring assistance of social services intervention to ensure that their housing, medical, social and economic needs are addressed and met. Conducts onsite visits to client residence, provides life skills presentations to clients, interacts with landlords for housing placement of homeless individuals and/or families.
For Homeless Outreach Program: Requires at least one (1) year experience in assertive outreach to shelter/service resistant homeless persons, strong assessment skills (mental illness and substance abuse) and ability to develop individual service plans, make referrals to appropriate agencies/services and perform follow-up. Mileage reimbursement is provided for approved field work.

For Substance Abuse Program: Requires at least one (1) year of substance abuse counseling experience and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) or Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (CADAC) certificate.
For Victim Abuse Program: Requires at least one (1) year of experience counseling victims of abuse or family violence.
Supplemental Information
