- Provides direct counseling to students.
- Assessment and development of measurable counseling and individualized education plans (IEP) goals, functional behavioral assessments and behavior intervention plans.
- Communication with students, families, administration and colleagues.
- Assists in the orientation of new students to the District.
- Addresses issues relevant to students that are impacting students’ performance in school, such as school attendance, behavioral concerns, and adjustment to school.
- Provides consultation to school staff to enhance students’ full participation in the academic and social milieu.
- When appropriate and with written consent, provides information to outside agencies to support students and their families.
- Serves as a resource to students to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity.
- Responds to and deescalates crisis situations which may include physical management of students.
- Maintains accurate records and reports to document student needs and progress, and to recognize patterns in behavior.
- Knowledge and skills in various methods of assessment to support eligibility, decision-making & problem-solving, intervention plan development, and progress monitoring of students’ skills and functional abilities.
- Knowledge and skills in various methods of data collection to support program review and goal setting.
- Consultation and collaboration skills to be a resource to the school community on a variety of topics including strategies, interventions and supports that can be provided to students within and outside of the classroom setting.
- Provides small group, classroom and individual counseling and interventions.
- Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices and child development.
- Maintains proper documentation.
- Adheres to applicable principles and practices of counseling and/or social work, District policies and procedures, and state regulations.
- Coordinates with administrators and other staff members to ascertain individual student's abilities and needs, including students with special needs, and to familiarize stakeholders with social work services.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Additional duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of Social Work principles, theories, assessment, methods, data collection, ecological-systems theory and behavior management.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education, students, and students with disabilities (e.g., FERPA, IDEA, Rehabilitation Act, etc.).
- Ability to organize and coordinate work in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with diverse individuals.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation and reflection with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others, most especially students.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective: Elmwood Park CUSD 401 is seeking an enthusiastic, experienced, student-centered school social worker to work collaboratively with administration, staff, and families to meet the needs of students in a unit District. The school social worker supports the social-emotional and functional skill development of students within the school setting.
Required Education and Experience: Master’s degree and School Social Worker Professional Educator License.
Preferred Education and Experience: Experience working in a school setting with elementary and middle school students.
