St. Johns Classical Academy, Fleming Island Campus is seeking a full-time, 10-month, Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant for the 2023/2024 school year.

Summary

Speech-language pathology assistants (SLPA) are support personnel who, following academic coursework, fieldwork, and on-the-job training, perform tasks prescribed, directed, and supervised by ASHA-certified speech-language pathologists. Therapists must be willing to commit to the school's mission, Hillsdale College K-12 Education program in conjunction with the Barney Charter School Initiative (BCSI) ten essential elements and academic program, and scholar outcomes as outlined in the approved charter.

Essential Functions

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

· Self-identifying (e.g., verbally, in writing, signage, titles on name badges, etc.) as an SLPA to scholars, patients, clients, families, staff, and others;

· Exhibiting compliance with federal, state, and local regulations including: The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA); reimbursement requirements; and state statutes and rules regarding SLPA education, training, and scope of practice;

· Implementing documented care plans or protocols (e.g., individualized education plan [IEP], treatment plan) developed and directed by the supervising Speech Language Pathologist (SLP).

· Providing direct therapy services addressing treatment goals developed by the supervising SLP to meet the needs of the scholar.

· Developing and implementing activities and materials for teaching and practice of skills to address the goals of the scholar per the plan of care developed by the supervising SLP.

· Providing treatment through a variety of service delivery models (e.g., individual, group, classroom-based, co-treatment with other disciplines) as directed by the supervising SLP;

· Documenting student, patient, or client performance (e.g., collecting data and calculating percentages for the SLP to use; preparing charts, records, and graphs) and report this information to the supervising SLP in a timely manner.

· Plans and implements a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of scholars and complies with the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) standards and St. Johns Classical Academy (SJCA) goals and objectives.

· Maintains professional relationships and works cooperatively with employees, the community, and other professionals.

· Maintains professional competence through individual and staff training, in-service educational activities, and self-selected professional growth activities.

· Performs other tasks related to area of responsibilities as requested or assigned by an immediate supervisor.

· Conforms to SJCA policies including attendance, absences, and evaluations.

· Attendance must be adequate to acceptably perform listed job functions.

· Able to uphold and support the vision and mission of St. Johns Classical Academy.

· Demonstrated expertise in subject matter (especially for subject specialists).

· Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.

· Flexibility, organization, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.

· Personal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone.

· Knowledge of computer systems, financial procedures, and legal requirements.

· Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects, and coordinate the work of others.

· Knowledge of effective classroom management techniques.

· Ability to maintain positive relationships with scholars, parents, community members, and staff.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. The noise level in the work environment is moderate. Noise levels may rise during periods of high scholar traffic.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation:

· The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds in supplies which require bending, stooping, and lifting.

· The employee must use hands and arms to manipulate objects.

· The employee must use keyboards, tools, and other controls.

· The employee must sit and stand for extended periods of time.

· The employee will escort scholars around campus.

· The employee must have normal vision and hearing with or without aid.

· The employee must be able to move about assigned locations unaided during the workday.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

School hours are Monday through Friday from 7:15 a.m. to 3:25 p.m.

Travel

Some travel may be expected for this position.

Required Education and Experience

· Bachelor's degree.

· Current Florida Board of Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology Assistant license.
