Sr. Sustainability Engineer Job at Watts Water
Responsible for contributing engineering expertise and guidance in all aspects of the product life cycle. Develops and releases improved products and processes to meet changing market needs. Creates and maintains technical documentation and electronic configurations for product lines with an assurance of product quality.
Provide and respond to product development opportunities through interaction with Sales and Marketing, through industry, trade, and regulatory review and through the release and development of internal creativity.
Regularly reports to management on essential departmental functions (orders, field support) and provides status of major Engineering projects in support of the company’s strategic goals.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Lead identifying the necessity and defining paths for redesigning and/or maintaining products for a multitude of reasons (the following list is not all inclusive): Product improvement, revised standards, cost reductions, economies of scale considerations, standardization for configuration and management simplicity.
- Provide daily leadership, guidance, and coaching to sustaining team on technical issues
- Liaison between R+D/NPD Engineering and product management
- Lead the Engineering Change Order, Product Improvement and Value Add Value Engineering processes. Includes orchestrating both engineering and/or production validations as required.
- Review, determine actions on Product Improvement requests. Prioritize based on safety, performance or other urgency.
- Lead meetings of functional teams as needed to manage project completion and success.
- Oversee and coordinate impacts to BOM, drawings, operations, marketing, etc.
- Manage and organize filing, structure both electronically and hard copy as required.
- Manage BOM and Parts master to latest validate and released designs.
- Sustaining Engineering and Design Standards & Processes
- Sustaining Engineering Project Timelines
- CAD System administration and Solidworks setup guidance
- Drive success measurement through metrics and KPIs.
- Monitor daily work priorities of Engineering Team. Guide and support Engineers when on projects.
- Provide technical expertise to the marketing, sales, quality and customer solutions teams as well as cross-functional support throughout the company.
- Provide support to continuously improve cost, quality and delivery.
- Participate in New Product Development reviews providing feedback on new design DFM, DFA, and DFS rules compliance.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION: Bachelor's and/or master's in Mechanical engineering.
MANAGEMENT: This position has indirect reports consisting of Engineers or Designers
- Monitor and coach production floor Engineering support for Engineers, CAD Designers and BOM specialists.
- Orchestrate, disseminate and prioritize Engineering change orders for Engineers and CAD Designers.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
- 5 years experience in Mechanical Engineering Design and Manufacturing environment
- 3 years experience in ASME Pressure Vessel Design
- 2 years of project management experience preferred
- Experience with Solidworks, required
- Ability to take initiative and be resourceful
- Ability to communicate and work with colleagues/teams in different departments professionally and effectively

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, talk, and/or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
*WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Office environment, Engineering Test Facility with occasional shop floor working environment
- Noise level is minimal with intervals of spikes.
- Required to wear safety glasses and utilize other safety equipment as required while present on the shop floor.
