Job Summary
The Staff Scientist will be responsible for conducting in-depth research on kernel flows and data-adapted kernels and their applications to surrogate modeling. Specifically, they will be expected to investigate the performance of data-adapted kernels for surrogate modeling. This will involve designing and implementing algorithms to test the effectiveness of different data-adapted kernel approaches for constructing surrogate models in a range of applications. The successful candidate will need to have a strong background in kernel methods and a deep understanding of surrogate modeling techniques.
The Staff Scientist will need to be comfortable working in a research-driven environment and collaborating with other researchers and team members. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to stay up to date with the latest developments in the field and contribute to the research community through publications and presentations. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. A strong publication record in relevant research areas would also be desirable.
Essential Job Duties
- Attend joint meetings with JPL.
- Conduct research on kernel flows and data adapted kernels and their applications to surrogate modeling.
- Design and implement algorithms to investigate the performance of different kernel flows and data-adapted kernels for surrogate modeling.
- Analyze and interpret numerical results and present findings to the team.
- Collaborate with other researchers and team members to develop and improve surrogate modeling techniques.
- Keep up to date with the latest developments in the field and contribute to the research community through publications and presentations.
Basic Qualifications
- PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- Experience with designing and conducting experiments and analyzing experimental results.
- Excellent programming skills, particularly in Python.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong background in kernel methods and surrogate modeling.
- Strong publication record in relevant research areas is desirable.
