Senior Software Engineer for the Engines Team in Bellevue, WA

We are looking for a talented Senior Software Engineer with experience in distributed computation, data processing, and building scalable cloud services. As a member of the model engines team, you will build engines that simulate risk of natural, human-generated, and climate disasters. The engines you build will allow customers to make informed, multi-billion-dollar decisions with global impact.

RMS Model Engines Team:

The Engines Team develops key backend engines that perform distributed execution of catastrophe models. Team contributes to multiple impactful areas, including:

  • Create high-performance computational engines used in catastrophe modeling
  • Optimize complex numerical computing task to run fast on the Cloud
  • Productize and optimize new models and engines.

As a Senior Software Development Engineer, you are expected to drive solutions from end-to-end in a fast-paced, ambiguous, agile, SaaS engineering environment. You will contribute to design and development. You should be able to work independently, juggling multiple items concurrently while contributing to multiple areas within a large software project. You must be able to dive into any existing code as keeping the live site fully operational is always a priority. Your technical ability and leadership will manifest in the wide-ranging scope and far-reaching scale of your impact. You will mentor junior engineers while interacting comfortably with other team members along the way.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • 3+ years of programming experience; proven track record of on-time delivery
  • Degree in computer sciences or related fields
  • Experience writing production-level code in Java, C#, C++ or Scala
  • Passion for software quality and performant algorithms
  • Experience with cloud-native development (AWS, Azure, GCP etc.)
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the classical data structures and algorithms, understand their runtime and space-time complexity.
  • Demonstrable skills in analytic computing and algorithms
  • Demonstrable knowledge of programming concepts such as multi-threading, memory management, and query processing

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience
  • Experience in performance tuning, bottleneck analysis, and resource usage monitoring
  • Advanced degree in computer sciences or related fields.
  • Experience with SQL and No-SQL databases
  • Experience with distributing processing.
  • Familiarity with probabilistic and stochastic computational techniques.
  • Experience computing in highly distributed cloud systems.
  • Prior history with agile development

For US-based roles only: the anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is $130,000.00 $195,500.00, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for incentive compensation.
