SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):

Cal Poly Pomona has been accepted as one of 18 university teams to compete in a design-build challenge of a sustainable and affordable house, through Orange County Sustainability Decathlon 2023 (OCSD23). Our Cal Poly Pomona’s multi-disciplinary team involves faculty and students from architecture, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, and business. In fall 2022, to meet the OCSD23 challenge, our multi-disciplinary team began with a collaborative assignment to develop the schematic design of the house. We formed eight design groups that included three students from architecture and three students from civil engineering. These competing design groups brainstormed ideas and submitted eight different schematic designs. Of the eight designs, students, faculty, and industry mentors voted on the best design and floor plan. The students then worked on creating construction documents, so that the structure can be built by a factory and transported to the competition site. In April 2023, construction for the design-build of the house will start and we need students over the summer who can (1) finish completing the competition documents that will be juried and scored, (2) assist coordination efforts to transport the house, and (3) provide the interior design of our house. The competition documents’ topics will include technical aspects (passive house features, energy analysis, etc), construction budget and scheduling, economics (affordability), sustainability, environmental factors, and code regulations (permits). The competition will be held at the Orange County Fairgrounds in October 2023 and the daily attendance for the 10-day event is expected to be 40,000 people.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum education: Junior standing at Cal Poly Pomona

Minimum experience: Major in architecture with prior experience in Revit or civil engineering with prior experience in CAD
