Job Description Summary:

The Student Employment Coordinator reports to the Director of Student Employment
within the Center for Career Services, the central office that manages and provides comprehensive career exploration and industry coaching for undergraduate students, and university-
wide responsibility for employer development, employer programming and services, and student employment, including the Federal Work-Study program.

The position is responsible for delivering core recruiting and onboarding services and providing support to student applicants, student employees, and department hiring managers. Duties also include resource and training development; as well as, supporting student and employer customer engagement associated with student employment procedural, regulatory, and developmental activities.

Responsibilities:
  • Engage strategically with applicants, student employees, hiring departments, and other GW departments to support recruiting and onboarding efforts, and address compliance issues.
  • Review and approve student employee job postings and Hire Proposals to ensure compliance with appropriate policies, procedures, and classification structure. This will include coordinating with department hiring managers to determine appropriate student employee classifications and advising clients on best-recruiting practices.
  • Oversee onboarding activities for student employees including the I-9 process.
  • Develop and implement supplemental resources, training opportunities, and programs that focus on supporting hiring managers, supervisors, and students in recruiting, onboarding, hiring, and professional development practices.
  • Train, onboard, and provide direct supervision of department student staff.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, participating in and supporting the department’s special events and activities, representing the department at university-wide events and activities, and serving on committees.


The position is based at GW’s Foggy Bottom’s Campus in Washington, DC. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 3 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.



Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional experience in student employment, human resources, compensation administration, employer relations, and development, project management, customer service higher education, or related fields.
  • Experience with the Federal Work-Study programs and knowledge of their Federal regulations.
  • Detail-oriented and experienced working with records with a commitment to accuracy.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills working with a diverse population.
  • Technical skills, particularly with Banner and/or HRIS systems, along with the ability to learn and utilize other proprietary applications.
  • Experience and interest in working with employers and college students.

Typical Hiring Range
Commensurate with Experience.
