Student Life Coordinator Job at EF Gap Year
We are hiring multiple Student Life Coordinators for several of EF Gap Year’s programs occurring in Winter and Spring 2023. While this role is based out of our Cambridge (Boston) headquarters, this is your chance to live and work throughout Europe or Central America.
- 4-Week Sustainable Development in Costa Rica (Three dates: January 2-January 30, 2023, April 19-May 17, 2023, July 5-August 2, 2023)
- 10 week- Changemaker Semester- Central America (January 16- April 7, 2023)
- 10 week- Pathfinder Semester- Europe (January 16- April 7, 2023)
- 4-Week European Discovery (Two dates: April 19-May 17, 2023, July 5-August 2, 2023)
- Global Business in London (July 5-August 2, 2023)
The Student Life Coordinator’s role is to empower program participants to be successful, engaged, safe, and supported throughout the duration of their program experience. The Student Coordinator works closely with EF staff & partners in-country as well as across the globe in Boston, Zurich, and elsewhere. The Student Life Coordinator’s overarching goal is to foster positive group dynamics while ensuring each individual student feels a sense of belonging within the group and can adapt to the program successfully. In addition, the Student Life Coordinator is responsible for assisting with program activities and using their unique skill set to enhance the student experience. The Student Life Coordinator will report to Mary Duggan, Customer Experience Manager.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare for and welcome students on arrival alongside local staff and partners.
- Assist in the design and implementation of orientation activities.
- Availability to work approximately full-time (40 hours per week) on an hourly basis.
- Participate in and help facilitate group activities on-the-ground.
- Empower students to set goals and follow through on their progress, with a focus on EF Gap Year’s core G2PA Educational Philosophy: Growth mindset, Global perspectives, Personal development, and Action.
- Respond to emergency situations as they arise
- Work closely, by phone, with a central Safety and Incident Response team to manage crises and action plan next steps
- Help foster positive community and group dynamics within the cohort and between the cohort and local community, with a focus on inclusivity and respect.
- Accompany students on all included tours and activities, assisting with logistics as needed.
- Be familiar with and be a first responder to any violations of the EF Gap Year’s Code of Conduct in collaboration with other EF staff members to resolve the next steps.
- Compile and create content for EF Gap Year, potentially including photos, student interviews, or parent newsletters.
- Other duties as reasonably assigned.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Ability to attend virtual or in-person training
- Availability to be in the same location as the students for the entire duration of the program
- Flexibility to have hours that vary based on the needs of the students and program
- Experience leading, facilitating, and/or working with high school, gap year, or college students in a mentorship capacity
- Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with an international team locally and across the globe.
- Calm under pressure and bias towards action.
- Experience studying, working, or living abroad required.Experience in program country/region preferred but not required.
- BA/BS from an accredited college or university.
- Academic experience or familiarity with the topic of the program preferred, though not required.
- Must have a valid passport.
- Fluency in English and experience with the host country language and/or culture (at least B2 level of local language proficiency preferred)
- Legal ability to work in the US
- CPR certification though will be provided if not already certified
The Compensation Package includes:
- Hourly compensation at $16/hr. approximately 40 hours per week
- All flights to and from the program country and all transportation on-the-ground
- Accommodation for the duration of the program
