Summary

As an Student Programs Specialist at Michigan Public Health in the Office of Public Health Practice, you will focus on providing experiential learning opportunities that fulfill students' degree requirements and prepare them for their future careers, such as the Public Health Action Support Team (PHAST), service projects, and supporting the Practice Advisory Council and community organizations. In addition to contributing to a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment for all members of our community, your work will be to manage student staff, oversee budgets and resources, and ensuring compliance with university procedures. You will report to the Director of Strategic Initiatives and will work with U-M units and partners to create public health programming and experiential learning opportunities for students.

We are composed of six graduate departments, one undergraduate program, a unique joined degree with the School of Information (Health Informatics), and an online MPH degree program.

This position is based in Ann Arbor where you will have a hybrid schedule that requires 2-3 days on-site with occasional evenings and weekends to support preplanned activities and events.

Responsibilities*

  • Collaborate with the Director of Strategic Initiatives in the Office of Public Health Practice to identify potential areas for growth and develop strategies to achieve program goals, including a comprehensive program plan for expanding practice-based learning activities to undergraduate and online students.
  • Conduct needs assessments and evaluations of activities and programming to ensure that experiential learning opportunities meet the needs of students and align with program goals.
  • Collaborate to develop project work plans, identify deliverables and deadlines, allocate resources, manage project activities, and deliver public health programming, including experiential learning activities, training sessions, workshops, and other events.
  • Monitor program progress and success using data-driven approaches, including tracking and analyzing programmatic data, developing reports, and recommending program improvements and expansion.
  • Be a liaison on community coalitions and work groups, and training and technical assistance to all partners, including faculty, students, and community partners.
  • Maintain partnerships with community organizations and partners to facilitate program growth and expansion, identify new opportunities for collaboration, and ensure that program activities align with community priorities.
  • Develop and edit publications, websites, and other materials to promote Practice activities and programs to all partners.
  • Provide onsite support for public health in action courses, including coordinating logistics and student support

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health or related field or equivalent education and experience
  • 2 or more years of demonstrated experience in program coordination, implementation or evaluation, event planning, or related field.
  • Experience developing program evaluation plans and tools, to make informed decisions and improve programs
  • Demonstrated commitment to creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work and learning environment
  • Ability to travel, both international and domestic, to support 3-4 trips per year
