Compensation:
Salary: $88,539 - $139,949

Grade D/ 636 hay points
UTLO rate: $131,500

Responsibilities:


The selected candidate will be responsible for the in-house maintenance and operation of NYC Transit’s Telephone Switch Network (PBX), comprised of eight central office grade PBX platforms located throughout the NYC Transit system. Responsibilities will also include managing and operating a 24/7 command center and all field functions for preventive and remedial maintenance, upgrades and expansion; as well as maintaining and tracking all documentation and configuration information. The selected candidate will manage a diverse staff consisting of Professional & Technical Employees, Maintenance Supervisors and Telephone Maintainers that are tasked with ensuring a safe, prompt, and proper response to all voice telecommunication service interruptions; interface and coordinate with various technical and non-technical department staff and senior management throughout NYCT and other MTA agencies, vendors and contractors for ongoing capital and non-capital projects; escalate service interruptions that directly or indirectly affect the ability to provide safe and reliable train service.

Education and Experience:
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in computer science, communications, or a closely related field of study, and 8 years of full-time related experience, of which 5 years must have been in a managerial/supervisory capacity; Or


A satisfactory combination of education and experience.


Desired Skills:


  • Experience as a communications technical lead and/or supervisory role.
  • Knowledge of manufacturer and industry standards and practices as applies to NYCT's networks and infrastructure.
  • Ability to interpret and understand networking drawings and nomenclature for both legacy and emerging technologies.
  • Knowledge of telephone switching instruments, user features and high speed transmission systems.
  • Ability to research, analyze, and respond to all inter and intra departmental inquiries from all stakeholders including senior management with a high degree of customer service and integrity.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency utilizing a desktop PC and applications such as MS Office.
  • Knowledge of NYCT Rules/Regulations, and Safety Practices and Procedures
  • Experience working in a Union environment.
