Surgical Scheduler Job at United Medical Monitoring
Job Summary:
The Surgical Scheduler is required to schedule appropriate procedures/surgeries per the provider’s orders. The Surgical Scheduler must have excellent customer service skills with patients, employees, and the public. The Surgical Scheduler must be able to respond to both written and oral correspondence regarding scheduling changes/cancellations in a timely, accurate manner. Surgical Schedulers must be organized and be able to manage a demanding workload with accuracy. The Surgical Scheduler must also provide daily reports as requested by Management of the cases booked.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Schedule IONM (Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring) for patients with the appropriate hospital, surgeon, and time/location slot, utilizing the scheduling system (USMON).
- Ensures requested surgical time and personnel are available with BOTH the provider and the hospital.
- Interfaces with appropriate staff when needed to ensure all necessary equipment will be on site.
- Interfaces with appropriate hospital staff and surgeons’ offices to ensure a cohesive working relationship in providing patient care services.
- Enters notes/special instructions needed for scheduling in the electronic medical record.
- Enters in USMon and assures accurate documentation of informed consent with patients for procedures and surgeries as needed.
- Provides accurate, detailed information to surgeon’s offices regarding test preparations, time of patients' scheduled arrival, and any other directional information needed; takes appropriate action in responding to questions from surgeon offices or hospitals.
- Confirms patient’s insurance provider and either obtains prior authorization or communicates the need for prior authorization to appropriate parties as needed.
- Completes pre-procedure phone calls and confirms appointment times with surgeons’ offices and hospital operating rooms via telephone and or email.
- Assists other members of the department as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
