This position is a member of our Water Quality Planning Division.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
As a part of the Office’s Water Quality Planning Division, our Chemist IV will play a key role in achieving TCEQ’s mission. You would use your skills and experience to:
- Conduct moderately complex chemical and biological analyses of environmental samples submitted to the Sugar Land Laboratory of the TCEQ.
- Generate legally defensible quality assurance/quality control data and records to support work. Review and/or develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) involving laboratory analyses, products, and services.
- Review, verify, and validate advanced chemical analytical results generated by staff analysts using the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS); develop and maintain expertise in analytical methodologies, National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Conference (NELAC) quality systems, customer specifications, and applicable regulations.
- Lead or participate in special projects, to include EPA projects, SWQM projects, etc.
TELEWORK
This position requires full-time in office attendance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A bachelor's degree in a natural or physical science which included 24 semester hours in chemistry from an accredited college or university, plus two years of full-time experience in a TCEQ chemistry laboratory or with activities directly related to the examples of work performed.
One year (24 semester hours) of graduate study in chemistry may be substituted for each year of the required experience.
OR
- Career Ladder Progression: One year of full-time experience as a Chemist III at the TCEQ.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with EPA-approved methods of analysis.
- Experience using LIMS.
