Job Description
Assists in the management of Health and Safety (EHS) programs to ensure a safe and accident-free work environment at the facility. Help lead and support the development and implementation of facility-wide safety culture through technical support, program development, and relationship building. Promotes safety by working with all departments to analyze situations and recommend safety improvements. The position is considered a preparatory leadership position in which to demonstrate the skills and abilities to take the role of a future safety manager.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Carries out the duties of the Safety Manager as delegated
- Plans, delivers, and coordinates programs to train managers and employees in workplace safety practices and first aid
- Provide leadership to safety committees and focus groups
- Assist in accident investigations and may prepare incident reports and alerts required by regulatory agencies or for company information sharing
- Conduct inspections of the organizations facilities/equipment to detect existing or potential accident hazards and determines corrective measures
- Provide safety technical expertise to facility leadership to ensure a safe work place and world class safety culture
- Participate in early management project design and review processes to reduce risk potential and ensure compliance.
- Lead and support mentoring of Safety Lead
Basic & Preferred Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Environmental, Health & Safety studies (or closely related field)
- Bachelors degree in another field with 2 years experience in the field
- Strong PC skills (word processing, spreadsheets, database)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated experience of building and leading teams
- Thorough understanding of OSHA regulations
- Experience performing risk assessment preferred
- Demonstrated understanding of culture and behavior safety
- Ability to work various shifts on occasion to deliver training
- Bilingual (preferred)
