Temporary, Long-Term: Lower School – First Grade Faculty (Seattle, WA)
Long-Term Substitute, 1.0 FTE, Fall 2023 (excluding breaks & holidays)
Organizationally, the Lower School’s Long-Term Substitute, First Grade Faculty member reports to the Lower School Director and works closely with students and families, as well as Lower School Faculty and Staff.
While other duties may be assigned, a qualified candidate will be able to manage the key responsibilities and duties listed below:
Create and sustain classroom culture based on mission and values of the school
Collaborate and work effectively in teams with colleagues
Design, prepare and deliver instructional activities that emphasize experiential learning experiences
Differentiate instructional resources/methods to meet students’ varying needs
Value and incorporate diverse perspectives in daily interactions and in the curriculum
Collaborate with school counselor to establish and maintain social emotional learning and wellness for all students
Work closely with learning coordinator to support varying learning styles and needs in the classroom
Establish positive classroom expectations with a responsive behavior management style creating a safe and comfortable environment for all students
Create and sustain effective parent/guardian partnerships
Coordinate families to engage and volunteer with the classroom
Observe/evaluate/assess students’ development and maintain accurate records on progress, to include drafting detailed and thoughtful report cards
Communicate effectively with students’ families around student progress and classroom news
Routinely plan and prepare outside the scheduled school day
Participate positively in meetings, activities/committees such as community events and school admissions
Attend school related events outside the scheduled school day
Conscientiously complete other duties as assigned
Academic and Professional Experience:
Experience in teaching required, with 3 or more years of teaching preferred
A bachelor’s degree is required
A graduate degree is preferred
Teacher certification is preferred
Successful candidates will:
Possess a philosophy of education that aligns with the school’s mission and values
Exhibit the capacity and desire to engage in experiential activities and programs with students
Communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with others, including administrators, colleagues, staff and parents/guardians in order to maintain constructive and professional relationships.
Complete work in a timely and thorough manner and be conscientious about assignments and deadlines.
Be patient and positive and find joy in the journey of promoting a lifelong love of learning
Have proficient skills in the use of technology: including, but not limited to, Microsoft Suite, Google Drive, and Outlook
Additional Requirements:
Have a current Adult and Children CPR, First Aid and AED Certification (or receive one soon after hire date)
Meet the school’s standards when completing two separate background screenings
Meet the school’s COVID vaccination requirements. The Bush School is committed to providing a safe environment and campus for students, employees and visitors alike. In support of this commitment, candidates who are invited to campus during the hiring process will be required to provide proof of their full COVID-19 vaccination* to the school’s Main Office, prior to attending their on-campus appointment. Newly hired employees shall provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or obtain school approval of a religious or medical exemption, prior to being allowed to work at The Bush School. Compensation/Benefit Information for this position:
Salary Range for this temporary, term-limited assignment: $23,067 - $41,732
Faculty employees with a Master’s degree, PhD and/or National Certification may be eligible for additional compensation
