Overview:
By Light Professional IT Services is seeking Senior Transport Test Engineer to join our Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) team at Ft. Meade, MD. This is an exciting position which supports the Defense Information System Network (DISN) Transport Test Lab. The specific role supports the modernization of legacy TDM archetectures and transition to IP and Optical technologies.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide subject matter expertise on the DISN Transport Core and Edge hardware, software, configurations, connectivity, and use cases to conduct test and design engineering for the Defense Infomration Systems Network (DISN). Testing responsibilities include interoperability, features, functionality, use cases, performance, regression, cybersecurity, bug scrubs, and feasibility. Testing outcomes include test results, equipment, configurations, and implementation instructions.
  • Provide Tier III Engineering support in response to internal and external requests and escalations. Troubleshoots and resolves system issues and problems, develops configurations for systems and capabilities, maintains equipment configuration (golden configurations), conducts cybersecurity assessments, provides training, and provides analyses/recommendations/lessons learned reports.
  • Provide technical expertise in design review, lab testing & test report, implementation plan and deployment of new advanced large-scale complex DoD networks.
  • Conduct audits, risk assessment, threat analysis, contingency planning and implementing security standards and methods.
  • Conduct market research to find products to meet requirements.
Required Experience/Qualifications:
  • BS in Networking, Telecommunications, or related area required.
  • CCIE or JNCIE or equivalent routing and switching experience.
  • DoD 8570-01-M IAT Level II or higher to include Security+, GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, or CISSP.
  • Legacy Transport (Low/High Speed TDM) and IP Design Experience
  • Expertise necessary to provide needed operational support, testing and modernization planning for legacy transport devices including:
    • Multi-service Provisioning Platform (MSPP)
    • Optical Digital Cross Connect (ODXC)
    • Promina
    • Circuit-to-packet conversion equipment.
  • To facilitate the elimination of TDM technologies, engineering knowledge of TDM interfaces including serial data interfaces RS-232, RS530, RS449, RS422, V.35, Conditioned Diphase and SDH/PDH, DS0/E0, Fractional T1/E1, DS1/E1, DS3/E3, SONET/SDH, OC3/STM1, OC12/STM4, OC48/STM16, and OC192/STM64.
  • Working Knowledge of MPLS services include L3VPN, L2VPN, VPLS (Virtual Private LAN service) and CsC (Carrier Supporting Carrier). JPE platforms tested include Juniper MX960/MX480 and Cisco ASR9010/ASR9006 routers.
Preferred Experience/Qualifications:
  • DISN-specific Legacy Transport (Low/High Speed TDM) and IP Design Experience
  • CCIE or JNCIE or equivalent routing and switching experience.
  • Experience in IP networking, including IP platforms such as customer edge routers, provider edge routers, switches, firewalls, Internet Access Points (IAP’s), Cloud Access Points (CAP’s), Layer 2 and Layer 3 Virtual Private Networks (L2VPN and L3VPN), Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPV4), Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPV6/6VPE), Ethernet VPN (EVPN), Quality of Service (QoS), Segment Routing, Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS), Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN), Autonomous System Boundary Router (ABSR), external border gateway protocol (BGP) (eBGP), Layer 2 Psuedowire, Interior Gateway Protocols (IGP), Inter- Intermediate System to Intermediate System (IS-IS), Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), MPLS – Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP), Label Distribution Protocol (LDP), Carrier servicing Carrier (CsC), Multicast, Filter Based Forwarding (FBF), Multi-Hop Bidirectional Forwarding Detection (MBFD), Ethernet Operation, Firewalls including Access Control List (ACL) , Operation Administration and Maintenance (OAM) Protocol and Network Management., 802.1Q and VRRP/HSRP.
  • Optical Transport Systems epertise to include optical switches, amplifiers, regenerators, Optical Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM), Optical Transport Networking (OTN), Optical Transport Unit (OTU) frames, OTN-based backbones, optical light paths, optical spectrum, optical virtual private networks (O-VPNs), wavelength-based private services, Packet-Optical Transport System (P-OTS), Ethernet, Flexible Ethernet (FlexE), Carrier Ethernet.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact with management and staff at all levels.
  • Candidate should also have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Special Requirements/Security Clearance:
  • DoD 8570-01-M IAT Level I Certification or higher (A+ CE, CCNA-Security, CND, Network+ CE, SSCP, etc.)
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field
  • 10+ years of network engineering experience
  • Working knowledge Microsoft Office Tools; specifically, PowerPoint, Word & Excel
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
