The Upper School at Trinity School seeks a driven, dynamic, and collaborative teacher to instruct Spanish for the 2023-2024 school year and beyond. This faculty leader will teach self-motivated, hard-working students in the Trinity School Upper School in a variety of levels and sections of Spanish, from Spanish II through Spanish IV.

A strong candidate should possess a deep commitment to and a passion for teaching the five components of Spanish: listening, reading, speaking, writing, and culture; therefore, an enthusiasm for and knowledge of Spanish language and literature are requirements for favorable consideration. The candidate should possess leadership qualities that serve to inspire, motivate, and develop students.

The ideal candidate should have the ability to be flexible and caring while holding students to high expectations in academic endeavors inside and outside of the classroom. Finally, successful candidates should be committed to collaborative curriculum development and continued professional development. An advanced degree and native speaker expertise are desirable, as is familiarity with the culture of private, independent schools, and a willingness to become involved in the school beyond the classroom. The position will begin in August 2023.

Primary Responsibilities

● Teaching Upper School Spanish

○ Spanish II

○ Spanish III

○ Spanish IV Honors

● Serve as an Upper School Student Advisor

● Contributing to the broader Trinity School community where applicable by participating in extracurricular activities, possibly including the athletic program, student life, and/or club programs

Qualifications

● Bachelor's degree in Spanish, Education, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred

● Teaching experience preferred, especially experience at the Upper School level

● Experience designing and implementing a balanced, sequential, developmentally appropriate curriculum

● Native-level fluency in Spanish, both spoken and written

● Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development

● Commitment to collaboration with instructors in other academic areas

● Ability to work cooperatively and diplomatically with students, parents, faculty, staff, and administration.

● Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including composing and proofreading.

● Excellent organizational skills and ability to establish priorities.

● Ability to use applicable computer programs and technology.

● Ability to engage students in learning

● Enthusiasm for field of study

● Ability to partner with parents and to communicate effectively with them

● Ability to work with colleagues and administration and staff as a team

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodation will be provided if necessary.

● Standing, walking, and sitting for long periods of time. Usually needed intermittently for brief and long periods of time. Frequency may vary depending on activities and location.

● Frequent bending during several hours or more while working with students. Usually performed for 5 to 30 sec at a time.

● Frequent reaching and hand dexterity for handling motor skills equipment and clerical tasks (such as handwriting, handling a clipboard, index cards, or notebooks, use of the telephone, keyboard, operating office tools and machines); manipulating small and medium size objects.

● Occasional squatting/kneeling may be needed on some days for specific activities.

● Able to lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds. Frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment

● May deal with stressful situations in the normal course of duties, including a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.

● The work environment is a standard classroom, gymnasium, and/or outdoor setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate, but occasionally high depending upon student population and activities. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions and/or outdoor weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and/or bodily fluids.

Pay: $40,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
