Position Description:
Utility Operator is an entry level position, which is a great opportunity for individuals looking to work in the power industry. Working under the direction of the Operations Supervisor. The individual will be responsible for general labor duties and will monitor and maintain proper operation of the tipping floor, boiler ash removal system and fly ash handling equipment at the Energy from Waste facility. Utility Operators are responsible for overseeing, operating, maintaining, and cleaning all systems related to tipping floor bottom ash equipment and flyash conveyors. This position will be involved in plant projects and forced boiler outages.
Utility Operators are responsible for maintaining their work area in a clean, orderly, and safe manner and comply with all safety and operational policies and procedures.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Tipping Floor Attendant
- Cleaning, Painting, Grounds keeping, and Preventative maintenance
- Operation of mobile equipment, including skid steer loader, font-end loader, and forklift
- Working in the boilers during maintenance outages
- Moving equipment and materials
- Loading and unloading trucks
- Monitor and maintain proper operation of ash conditioning, ash removal, and ferrous and non-ferrous metals recovery systems
- Perform and document inspections of equipment to identify and report equipment malfunctions
- Clean conveyor spillage
- Maintain work areas in a clean, orderly, and safe manner
- Assist other operating personnel as necessary to support plant operations
Position Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license. Prior experience in an industrial environment is desired.
Must be able to work overtime as needed including nights, weekends, and holidays with minimum notice.
May be required to work on a rotating shift schedule and work overtime as needed including nights, weekends, and holidays. May be required to work extensive overtime hours during planned and unplanned maintenance.
Must be able to work in all locations within the plant, under extremes of hot and cold, and in areas of dust, noise, and wet conditions. Must be able to wear a respirator, climb a ladder to access equipment and work from heights using fall protection, lift heavy objects and other manual labor to including pushing, pulling, sweeping, and shoveling.
