Our goal is to provide justice to the victims of crimes and to assist crime victims and witnesses in getting the resources that they need to help them deal with traumatic experiences that they have endured.

The Brown and Schuyler County State's Attorney's Offices are small offices with one prosecutor and one legal assistant in each location and use technology to greatly improve our efficiency. The two offices operate independent of one another. The successful candidate will be an employee of Brown County but will provide similar services to Schuyler County.

This is a full-time salaried position, Monday thru Friday, with limited evening hours as needed. The successful applicant will begin work on July 3, 2023. The successful applicant will split the work week between the Brown County State’s Attorney’s Office in Mt. Sterling, IL, and the Schuyler County State’s Attorney’s Office in Rushville, IL, on an as-needed basis. The position is paid for by a grant from the Illinois Attorney General's Office and has been funded for FY2024. The grant is subject to renewal each fiscal year. The successful applicant will be required to prepare and submit renewal applications as needed, likely on a yearly basis.

Duties of a Victim/Witness Coordinator are to provide direct services to victims of violent crime. “Direct services” includes, but are not limited to, notifying victims/witnesses of their rights and the procedures for implementing their rights, providing case updates and procedural explanations during all stages of the court process, providing court accompaniment and emotional support, providing information regarding available financial assistance and how to apply, and providing referrals to social service organizations that help victims to deal with trauma, loss and grief. The coordinator will act as a liaison between the victims and the prosecutors, provide courtroom advocacy, assist with coordinating witnesses/victims during trial, and assist with internal office operations from time to time. The successful applicant will be required to attend and complete mandatory training conducted by the Office of the Illinois Attorney General.

Applicants shall submit to a background check before being extended an offer of employment with a criminal record acting to disqualify an applicant. Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and a high school diploma are required, some college is preferred.
