The Volunteer Coordinator performs work in the marketing, recruitment, selection, training, and placement of volunteers. Must be available to work weekdays and weekends.

This is an SEIU Hourly (limited-benefits) position that is budgeted to not exceed 1,000 hours per fiscal year. The number of hours per week and schedule will be determined based on assignment.

Essential Duties

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Recruits and coordinates placement of volunteers in various program areas and departments as needed;
  • Coordinates with JMZ staff with regard to department needs for volunteer placements;
  • Prepares and distributes recruitment postings, applications, training materials and procedural guides for volunteers;
  • Schedules and coordinates volunteer staff for special events;
  • Tracks and reports of all volunteer hours for the JMZ;
  • Documents volunteer skills, manages volunteer evaluation process,s and develops volunteer retention plans;
  • Prepares volunteer-related reports and statistical accounts; maintains records and volunteer personnel files.
  • Develops and conducts an orientation and other in-service training programs for volunteers and other staff as needed;
  • Organizes volunteer appreciation and recognition events.
  • Participates in volunteer-related events and activities as needed/requested

Related Functions:
  • Implement Departmental goals and objectives with respect to volunteers.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Sufficient education, training and/or work experience to demonstrate possession of the following which would typically be acquired through:


  • High school diploma required.
  • Experience working with volunteers and public agencies
Ideal candidate qualifications:
  • AA or Bachelor's Degree in a related field preferred.

  • TB Testing

Medical Stipend
$3.34 effective the pay period including July 1, 2018.
$3.41 effective the pay period including July 1, 2019.
$3.48 effective the pay period including July 1, 2020.
Sick Leave
Earn .03 hour of sick leave for each hour worked.
